    Please guys help me!

I have a homework for my French lessons - I've got to say something about my hobby and use special words in French. I decided to talk about the Star Wars, but I don't know any words :(

Could you please help me and post some French words connected to SW? You know, lightsaber, jedi knight and so on... Everything that comes to your mind.

    I would be very grateful.

BTW: Why is it "La guerre des etoiles" instead of "Les guerres des etoiles"?

Just because it sounds better, I guess.

Here are a few things :

    Jedi knight : Chevalier jedi
    Light-saber : Sabre-laser
May the Force be with you : Que la Force soit avec vous
The Death star : l'Etoile noire (or) l'Etoile de la mort

And the famous and always weird Darth Vader translated into Dark Vador.

Well, names are more or less the same in french. Han Solo becomes Yan Solo so it doesn't sound like Anne. Minor tweakings but nothing major.

Thanks again, I really didn't know where to find it.

Ah, if you ever feel like practicing your French through reading some StarWars trivia in French on the internet, you know where to ask, too ;)

    Good luck with your homework!

Well, one more thing... How can I say how I got these information? How do you call an internet forum? And Jedi Council?

We call an internet forum "un forum de discussion sur internet". "Jedi Council" normally translates as "Conseil Jedi", but none of us call the board by any other name than its original, English one :)

    good luck!

Even if some French people who never heard about Star Wars and don't have a clue of what it is (there are very few of them nowadays, but I'm afraid there are still some left), can happen to say it the same way as they'd say the day of the week : "jeudi". :p

There even was a stupid joke that ran after 1997... It said that there was a rumour George Lucas was going to write a new StarWars movie, and that the title was already known :
"après Le retour du Jedi, L'arrivée du Vendredi". A prononcer "vendredaï", of course ;)

Sorry but this joke was created in 1983 in fact, I remember listening it very well.

Translating a title is not just turning the words into french... It has to make some sense as a whole.

Maybe she's only ever seen Star Wars in English. There are a few films I've never seen in French and I have no idea of how their title is translated.

Um, not that I can think of. I came here during the FFUK Invasion and kept lurking until I understood something. I may be a Student of French, but I can't understand a word most of the time :p

Hum... I guess it's just "la guerre" because french people like simple titles which tell clearly what's in the movie. For example, the first Harry Potter book is called "Harry Potter à l'école des sorciers" around here.
