    My college had 5 frats:

1 = Must have money, be white, dress nice, go to gym, and have a sports car. YUCK!

    2 = Drink all day.

3 = Drink and get high all day.

4 = Similar to what Sleazo is saying.

5 = Similar to what Sleazo is saying.

So you had 2 good choices and 3 bad choices.

I was in 4 or 5, whichever. Got along with everyone at school(Greek or not) including frats 2 and 3. Frat 1 was another story. ;)

See, I thought people would outgrow being in exclusive clubs/cliques by time they get to college. I was shocked to find out that it is even more prevalent at colleges due to the greek system. Thank god hippies are going as strong as ever too...

    :)

This thread caught my attention for sure. ;)

I just so happen to be a alumni of a Fraternity, not a frat. I agree with just about everyting that's being said here. I never went looking for it when I got to college, but it kinda found me. I was lucky enough to meet some really cool people by accident and it just happened to be.

Our membership consisted of many people from different backgrounds. That difference made us very strong on our campus. I had many friends outside of the Fraternity as well as within. My best friend wasn't even in a Fraternity. I don't come from a ultra-rich background, although some did. Who cares?

Some Fraternities have really made a bad name for the rest of us and that's a shame. :(

I finished University a couple of years ago, but I was never in a frat. In fact, they are illegal in Canada!

Whenever a fraternity/sorority person (or anyone, really) happens to speak to me and says something unintelligible, I'm usually contented to roll my eyes, make a smart-ass comment, and look down on them.

That being said--there are some cool people who are a part of a frat; I know several. I just don't expect for our conversation to go very far past:
-who drank what where the previous night
-who was at who's party the previous night
-who slept with who the previous night

So the point is--don't overestimate people.

i owe about 40 grand right now and i paid the rest myself without parental support, so that loan arguement doesn really stand,
and i know plenty of people who are not in fraternities during or after college whose only topics of conversation oinclude those three,
    once again stop the hater-ation
it sounds mostly like bitter whining

Why call a fraternity a "frat"?
Would you call you country a....well you figure it out.
