    Hey all--

I'm coming down in three weeks to start my internship as a character performer at Walt Disney World. Do you guys know of any SW geeks like me in the WDW College Program? I don't know anyone else in Orlando and I'd love to meet some people and make some friends who love the GFFA as much as me!

    Thanks,

    Ambassador Cara Jade

    Yes. And it's not me.
DantanaSkywalker is coming down even sooner than you, from Utah. In the next day or so I suspect you'll see her drop a line in this thread. Hope you'll consider posting on these boards while your in town, Welcome. -Campbell

Well, we're all SW fans around here, but I don't believe any of us work at Disney World (though, we do frequent it quite a bit!) When you work at Disney, please make sure you do not dress as Tigger, and, if you do, please do not fondle people while in costume.

...that's the "big deal" on the news now. Speaking of that, he refused a plea deal. I'll bet anyone he is innocent.

    Brandon

EDIT: I just saw your profile, and you have "Friends With Tigger." :) Just be warned, Tigger is not the most popular character around here now!

I'm not in it but I looked into it. Some people mentioned that it's just like working at Disney for the $6.60/hr you normally get, but you get to say you were an intern...

Don't mean to bring it down, but after all, it IS Disney!

Yep. :D I'm coming down on the 14th to do a little bit of family vacation thing before the program starts.

    . . . Is it $6.60/hour or $6.00/hour? It's been so long since they said that I can't remember . . . if it's $6.60, that's even better, lol.

Dantana, you're coming down from Utah? That's really weird cause I am too.

As far as the wages go, I was under the impression that everyone but the character performers got 6.00/hr, and all the character performers got 6.15. But I guess we'll find out for sure when we get there. :)

And yes, I am aware of the current problems with Tigger. I promise I'll be better than that--I'll be the one to clean up Tigger's image. ;)

Thanks for the welcome you guys, I'll definitely be around.

It's true. I don't think he did it. It's hard enough to see in those costumes, and the gloves are like wearing oven mitts. I doubt he could have groped anything, even if he wanted to.

It's just that Disney is such a rich company some people are willling to do anything to get a cut of the riches. Jerks. :(

Well I know that Universal paid $6.60/hour, and Disney was usually the same, but I do believe the wages went down when the summer started...Not positive.

Good Luck, you're gonna need it. ;)

I work for Disney and will accept some abuse for making the following statement.
First, if you don't make enough money, there's always overtime & it can be doing something fun like working Star Wars weekends in MGM or a baseball game at Wide World of Sports escorting celebs. I've done some very fun overtime in Typhoon Lagoon and too many places to count. There are tons of fun things to do in the college program and it's sometimes one big party. You meet a large variety of interesting people, make so many friends and everyone is so happy to be here. you normally share costs with other college program students and everyone I've ever known has a good time. You make the most of it. You're in Orlando, you can go to the parks as much as you want (if you like Disney, which is assumed if you're coming to work here) and you meet so many people from all over the world and make friends & connections for life. That was the original purpose along with learning a corporate philosophy. Sure people can be negative about anything but let's find the lighter, fun side once and awhile too. See the world through the eyes of a child (& no not literally for those naysayers who would take that statement to a dark place).
I've worked for Disney for 12 years (since my college years) and sure have had moments thinking that it'd be great to work somewhere else, make more money etc but the hardest thing to do has been to actually leave a place I've loved & people who have become more than friends and almost family. So, my response was late in coming but I would like to officially say welcome to Orlando, welcome to Disney & our College program and absolutely welcome to those who share our love of Star Wars!
See ya around the boards and maybe around the parks.
    Melanie :)

Wow, thanks, Raiza. I really am looking forward to this, and I think I am really going to enjoy it.

My parents took me to Disneyland at least once or twice a year since I was four years old, and I have had some of the best experiences in my life there. The cast members of Disney have really made some moments in my life eternally memorable, and all I'm hoping for is a chance to do that for someone else. I'm not in it for money, I'm not in it for the college credit (though both of those things are nice and it will be excellent to live out of Utah for a while!!!) I'm in it to make people happy. I'm hoping I can parlay this into some kind of career with the Disney company.

Again, thanks for the warm welcome. I've been kind of nervous about it. A friend of mine was supposed to come with me but she ended up not being able to so now I'm coming alone. It's kind of scary, the idea that I will go from one end of the country to the other to live all alone.

oh harsh! why does home always seem so much cooler after you leave? I used to live just about 30 minutes south of Orlando but have moved to Scotland for university.

what are these Star Wars weekends at MGM weekend I heard mentioned *aghast* I lived there my whole life and never knew about them? I'm crushed! sooo not fair.

Don't worry, I suspect Great Britain has a few things of interest, too. Star Wars Weekends have been going on since about 1998, I think. Does that sound right, anybody? -Campbell

I believe the pay was 6.00/hr for the college program students. I made more as a part-timer and worked there for 2.5 years. Actually I know a lot of people in here who've worked there in the past. Ia-bou, and myself for starters.

There is, contrary to the number of posts in this forum, a rather healthy FanForce in Orlando. The thing is, we no longer post here. We created our own forums (well, Mike did), and we would love if you would go there and register and post! Our main site (with a ton of pictures, PLEASE view them and comment on them... that's always fun) is located here:

    Orlando System

Our forums, with hundreds of posts, are located here:

    Orlando Forums

To be honest, they are kind of complicated and should be somewhat cut down on, different areas combined and such, but in terms of meetings and getting together with us, the first three sections are what you want. So, if you do not see us posting here or responding, that is why. Most never even come here anymore.

We hope to see you soon!

I am moving down there in May. Wel yo Poiciana. I am sure some of you know of this place. Right outside of KIssimee. My brother lives there.
If I work for Disney (I should ask my sister-in-law since she does.)will they pay for some of my college?
Also looking foward to hanging with other SW fans not many in NW Florida.

Hello everyone, I am a member of the KC FanForce and I am a WDW CP Alumni. I enjoyed the time I was at Disney, and people say that Hurricanes are bad. I actually enjoyed the three I was in last year.

For those who are on the CP, I have to say one thing. You are lucky to be down there this semester. Ep 3 coming out, STAR WARS Weekend at Studios and all. PI is going to be busy come Ep 3. I wish I was down there right now.

Anyway, just wanted to say hi to all those in Orlando and I wish I could have meet up with you guys while I was down there from June 2004 to Jan 5 2005.

I hope you are enjoying yourself Brat of Kansas. Can't wait to hear of the stories you have when you get back.

Suggs: Don't know about tuition reimbursement for Disney employees, but I'm sure someone on here does. Moving soon?

Seever: Hello back at you. While it's too bad you're not here, it's good to be a fan anywhere right now. Helluva year, it is. -Campbell

    Hi!

I thought I'd have to start a new thread, but apparently not! :) I'm coming down in August for the WDW program, and I was hoping to find some fellow Star Wars fans in the program. Maybe we can organize a Star Tours outing, or something--I'd feel awfully silly riding Star Tours by myself. :p

Anyone here into the EU? Or costuming? I don't actually do Star Wars costumes, but I think it's really cool.

would anybody be willing to pick this up for me and I can paypal the dough to you? I need this for a Christmas gift.

    Please let me know.

I'm not in the college program, but I'm an International Program Alumni from Epcot. I spent 14 months representing Canada, it was how I met my husband :) Now I'm a WAYYY over east in Cocoa!!

I live over an hour away from Disney currently, but if I can make it over and find the CD, I'll let you know. You can send me a private message here if you wish.
