    I've decided that I will speed up the clip. I'll post right after I finish.

    We'll just have to see how it looks. Besides, I don't think he's going to speed it up a whole ton, just enough to look a little faster.

    Maybe. But you forget: the more cheese, the more holes. The more holes, the less cheese. -> The more cheese, the less cheese. So that's gonna be no problem.

    And apart from that, slow and practice fighting sucks. We'll do the hart stuff. The deadly one. Yezzzz.

    @cooljack: It is.

    edit: off topic.

    ewan is holding the hilt way too close to the blade on the first swing.

    looks far more like fighting movement now.

    guess it's a trade off.

    quick sabers with an extra bouncy obi1 or the original.

    either is good imo.

    Anyone else think we should use normal speed footage?

    I originally thought we should speed up the footage, but after having seen the sped up clip, I think we should just use the original clip at the proper speed. It just makes the fighting (however slow) look more natural and goes for a better final clip.

    I've finished Obi-Wan's lightsaber. Pretty pleased with my obscurity handling.

    I don't know. The sped up version doesn't look that bad. Certainly not as bad as it could.

    Quick question about rotoscoping lightsabres: when you're handling obscurities, do you just mask the whole lightsabre and draw a new subtraction mask over whatever blocks the lightsabre, or just draw however many masks as the lightsabre is broken into sections?

    I hope that makes sense.

    draw a new subtraction mask over whatever blocks the lightsaber. That's the best way. It works for me. ;)

    I use vector paint.

    MasterZap recently stated why handling obscurities with a substraction mask is wrong: a lightsaber would also cast a colored glow on the things in the foreground:

    [image=http://www2.lns.mit.edu/~headrick/albums/Jessica/light-through-window.jpg]

    So, using multible masks would be the more realistic method. But there's no doubt that it's quite harder in AE than substractions. So, you've gotta choose wether you prefer less work or more realism.

    You apply the subtraction mask / vector painting, then use that data to get your glow. That way, when you add the glow, it will lap round the edged of the foreground - observe:

    you don't need to use vector paint. Ryan's method does a perfect lightwrap.

    but I think like your method a lot more. It's easier than using masks for for obscured lightsabers. thanks. ;)
