Im gathering from the previous posts that some of us have started already, but do we have an actual end date set yet? How about 3/4 weeks time?? [face_plain]

EDIT: And who exactly is entering / judging?

I haven't started yet, too. I'd recommend that everyone starts once we have the judges and the time dates. I'd also suggest 3 or 4 weeks, 2 at least, because my method, for example, takes me much longer than rotoscoping via AE would. :(

And just to be sure we're all using the same clip:´
    it's around 13 megs, duration 00:08:19, 600x400 px, Sorenson 3, 30 fps?

I looked at the clip, and I'm really surprised no one commented on the obvious lack of pull-down or deinterlacing going on... lots of blurred fields. Yuck!

I just took the time and wrote down the participants who're in yet. Those who are not on the list did either not say they want to join the contest, did not say which program they gonna use or were just overlooked by me (I just started around page 3 or 4 looking for entrants):

    -cooljack91 - Adobe After Effects

-Jace Taran - Ulead MediaStudio Pro

    -Kaat - Micrografx Picture Publisher

    -CRUDE_MATTER - Adobe After Effects

-Red-2 - Adobe After Effects (Alam DV 2?)

-TrowaGP02a (depending on the deadline?) - Adobe After Effects

-artofwot - Adobe After Effects (Blender?)

    -DarthArjuna - Adobe After Effects

    -DarthLowBudget - Adobe After Effects

-Serpent (depending on Alam DV 3 release?) - Alam DV 3

-JoeyH - Adobe After Effects / Photoshop

    -Lord_Charisma - Adobe After Effects

    -Tarn - Alam DV 3

No judges yet. None using for example JASC Paint Shop Pro, GIMP or Corel Photopaint, yet.

I'm definately in with AlamDV3. However, depending on timescale it might be with the beta, in which case I'll submit one for comparison, rather than for the contest itself.

Of course, if we manage to get the program out in time, I imagine there will be a few AlamDV3 submissions for the contest itself.

there has been no official start yet. think those who have the clip are just getting some basics started.

still details (judges) to sort out.

there was mention earlier of a two week time frame (?).

i think Jace Taran will give the "ok, go."

Just to clarify things, there will be no offical need to "sign up" once the contest actually starts. When it does start, anyone who wants will simply need to download the clip, roto, and send to whoever will be taking the submissions (another detail to sort out).

Asking everyone to say which program was just to see the kind of range of programs that we'd see used in the contest, not a sign up list.

Are there specific render settings we will need to use? Or will those kinds of details be given out nearer the time?

Are we using that clip from TPM? Be a bit of a shame to use such a tiny, low quality clip. Would it not be better to use a full-res PAL or NTSC clip? Not necessarily at DV quality, but at least at full res? A higher quality but shorter clip would be better than a longer clip that is tiny and has rather blurry footage.

Okay. When do we start? *g*

Here's an idea: there'll be no judges, but every participant can give - once we've seen all clips - six points: 3 for the best place, 2 for the second, and 1 for the third. And you also have to add one -1 for the worst clip (so the voting will be anonymous, I suppose). Or we abandon the -1 and just give 3, 2 and 1 point(s). Of course you have to give your votings to different clips, and you cannot vote for your own.

I guess that would be okay if we don't get enough judges. And maybe it'd be even better than having official judges because it is no real contest but more a friendly competition? However, tell me what you think.

We're probably going to go with an poll system rather than judges, actually. That way, anyone can view the clips and vote (whether they had an entry or not). Don't worry, I hope to get this started soon (hopefully within the next week or so).

Frame :28? You mean, the 29th frame, actually (counting the very first one, too)? I can't. It's kinda hidden behind Obi-Wan because he is in front of it, y'know.
Whenever I'm handling obscurities like that, I look at the frame(s) before and after and often have a quite good idea where the sabers's supposed to be.

Hey everyone. Wanted to post a picture Darth Maul with the red glow. I had this on another thread, but it's being sort of bombarded by an issue off topic.

I don't have time to rotoscope this clip. It looked like a lot of fun, unfortunately I've been busy. I could offer to be a judge, but I would need official details of the contest.

I really haven't worked on red lightsabers much, except for our Entry in LCC3, and even those turned out a little light, so I'm giving another go at it.

Very good saber, me like. There's few red sabers I really like, so, rock on.
