Until the release of ROTS on 5/19/05, I would like to discuss AOTC chapter by chapter on the DVD. There are 47 chapters to discuss over the next eight months, excluding Chapter 1: Opening Logos, Chapter 2: Attack of the Clones and Chapter 50: End Credits.

Each discussion will last 5 days. At the end of 5 days, the following chapter will be posted.

Chapter 48: "Begun, the Clone War Has"
    DISCUSSION: April 11, 2005 - April 15, 2005
    DVD TIME INDEX: 132:48 - 134:41

    Synopsis:
The sun falls over Coruscant. In the Jedi Council Chamber, Obi-Wan talk to Mace about Sidious controlling the Senate. He still refuses to believe it. Mace suggest to keep a closer watch on the Senate. Master Windu then asks where Anakin is. Obi-Wan says that he is "escorting" Senator Amidala home and adds that with the help of the clones on Geonosis, they achieved victory. Yoda is saddened. He says that the shroud of the dark side has fallen and the Clone Wars have begun. In the troop staging area, Clonetroopers are being readied to battle the Separatist all over the universe. Palpatine, Mas Amedda, Bail Organa as well as many others watch from a balcony. The clones continue to board the ships in unison as many ships take off for war. END OF CHAPTER

    Opinion:
Like the corresponding chapter in Phantom Menace, this does give that necessary tie-in to the next film. The Clone Wars have begun and the Dark Lord is showing himself and his plot more to the Jedi.

Another short chapter, but one that is ultimately necessary. Obi-Wan reveals to his superiors the concept of Sidious, something they surely didn't know in Phantom Menace, and that he could be controlling Palpatine and the entire Senate. Seems the tension is tightening between the two organizations. And Yoda's end line is classic, even though it's a little bit different from the original conception.

The staging of the troops is incredible. The color imagery of the sunset works perfectly as does Palpatine seeing off his defenders. Got to love the Imperial March blaring in the background, perfectly complemented with incredible cinematography. Moments like these push the Empire full force, unfortunately we're not there in the timeline yet. It also mirrors the staging on Kamino quite well.

Well done. This was believed to originally be the final scene of the movie, but seriouslly I like it how it is. Like Phantom Menace, we go into this foreshadowing darkness, then give some light, some hope. Excellent.

I like the music throughout this entire scene. The stuff in the Council Chambers seems to be foreboding of the future. I don't know. It just seems that with the score we already know the Jedi are doomed.

Ends the movie with another scene discussing the Sith like at the end of TPM.

As the PT moves on, the Jedi learn more and more and have more clues to peice together until the third installment where the Sith finnaly reveal themselves.

Nice idea, but the scene looks far to cartoony and animated. I prefer the blacks, greys and whites of the Empire in the OT.

Excellent chapter. I like the way Jedi temple is shown from the Coruscant sky - so foreshadowing.

This is a good chapter. The clones marching around is cool and to see the future star destroyers was nice as well

Personally, I think that AotC is flawless following 'this is only the beginning'. I love the way that the Imperial March slowly builds up; you almost don't realise that it's playing. The starships lifting off really gives a sense that the conflict is about to be become trans-galactic.

I so wish that the last two scenes of this film had been reversed. I think it makes sense to have had this scene following Anakin/Padme's wedding, because what is going to happen in ROTS is nothing but tragedy, as the Republic falls & the Empire is born. Imagine how cool and the significance of this scene would have been magnified if it were the last image we saw at the film.

I would have liked it to be as the book was, with Bail Organa looking out at the army in sadness, but turning his head to see Palpatine with a grim smile of determination/

"Personally, I think that AotC is flawless following 'this is only the beginning'."

I second that. The entire ending sequence is as good as Star Wars has ever been. Everything just flows, especially the music. It's probably my favorite ending in the series. Tied with ROTJ at least.

I think that Ani/Padme's wedding IS the ending to AOTC. I don't think I'd like this as the last scene. Imagine cutting from that last shot of Anakin/Padme to the Jedi Council, and another talking scene. It just wouldn't fit.

I think the scenes are in the right order; by finishing on a high note the transition to the 'written and directed by George Lucas' and credits music works well, and I thin that it's important that we finish with our main characters. I think that the Dooku/Sidious scene should flow the the council, and the 'begun, the clone war has' leads naturally to the deployment scene.

I really love how AOTC ended. The music that Williams composed is absolutely beautiful, and my favorite quote from then entire movie occurs here: The shroud of the Dark Side has fallen. Begun, the Clone War, has.....

Aah. The colors of the two scenes are amazing. The music is wonderful too. Especially when the Imperial March blasts up.

The Council sequence is interesting. The Jedi are not sure whether to trust Count Dooku about Darth Sidious. Since they know he has fallen to the dark side himself. I remember in the shooting script, the Jedi thought Dooku was the apprentice of Darth Maul. All they know is that they're going to keep a close eye on the Senate just in case Dooku was telling the truth. Perhaps they are falling into the trap perfectly.

Then we have the clone staging area. The animation of the clones looks weak, but the overall shot is spectacular. Though I thought the balcony shot needed some work. Mainly on who was there. Palpatine, Mas Amedda, and Bail Organa were fine, but I felt Jar Jar should have been there to witness what he helped create. Also instead of Toonbuck Toora (who I still say is a separatist despite the continuity crap) should have been replaced with Orn Free Taa. Ask Aak was already there. Darsana maybe should have showed up too since they were so gung-ho about getting an army at the start of the film. Well the film before their scene was cut. Even though their parts were still cut in the deleted version of the Senate scene.

I agree this part looks a bit too cartoony, I wish they had used some costumed troopers for the front row of the battallion. I also don't get why jarjar isn't with palpatine at the end, thats the closure of his arc.

overall this IS one of the stronger sections of the film, I think they should of omitted Yoda's line 'begun the clone war has' and just ended on 'the shroud of the darkside has fallen' but everything else works. I wonder why all the council chairs are missing? I think in the script ki adi and plo koon were in this scene also.
