I was too old for Pokemon, but good Lord did my younger brother love them. He used to collect the cards, play it on Game Boy, and draw them.

Really? You didn't play Pokemon? But they have fish, Nick. Lots of fish!

I was twelve years old when Pokemon was exploding and it was SERIOUS BUSINESS.

So serious that one of my childhood arch rivals actually stole my game cartridge and replaced all my uber Pokemon with pidgies.

    PIDGIES! CAN YOU EVEN IMAGINE?

It was actually pretty impressive. My cartridge went missing Monday morning. I was super upset... and then, Tuesday evening, it was back with my stuff. (I really hope the guy went on to use those skills to become an expert hustler, or something... because I saw nothing!!! NOOOTHING. And I typically kept my bag with me)

Still, he let himself down (in a most hilarious fashion) by forgetting that every single one of those pidgies had "Original trainer: [HIS NAME]" slapped on them. So it wasn't exactly hard to figure out who'd inflicted this insult upon me... and I took this information to those in power.

He got punished and I got my oh-so-important Pokemon back. Eventually. It took hours of transferring. Hours. Urgh.

I was already an adult in the 90s, and I've learned more about Pokemon from this thread than I ever knew.

This video essentially encapsulates the entirety of my 90s experience:

I never gave half a **** about the games in any form, but I'll admit I watched the Pokemon show half-heartedly for a while, for two reasons--one, Pikachu was mildly amusing, and two, most importantly, it was on before Batman.

It irriates me that all these years later, Ash is still ten years old. Floating timelines suck so much.

Time actually passes in Futurama--though mostly just for the occasional joke it provides.

They've been pretty consistent, though. (They also don't have to rely on a sliding timescale, and they haven't bothered much with the 'past-as-future' to worry about contradictions)

You had a childhood Pokemon rival that resulted in virtual espionage and sabotage. I now assume you're entire childhood is modeled after actual Pokemon episodes. ;)

As for Nick, you can't repell fish of that bassitude!

Also, I assume this is Jello as a fish:

I found my appalling deck in the loft five years ago. Started messing around. Bought some packs...

And now I am in possession of every deity-related card bar two, very ritual monster bar three, and every Number card.

    I still shudder.

But it's my go-to obssession when Star Wars sucks.
