You mean the "Joycean" bit (sorry about the apparent misspelling before)? Oh, it's just that the all-caps one-word posts reminded me of some of the similar-looking headings that occur in parts of Ulysses—also, the stream-of-conscious turn things seemed to be taking in the thread is characteristic of Ulysses too.

Haven't read Joyce, but the stream of consciousness in Faulkner drove me nuts. Guess I'm a bit Aristotlean in my literary tastes -- I like structure.

Not that I'm opposed to organic growth in episodic media like TV, but that's a whole different discussion and a long tangent to your analogy. :p

William Faulkner is awesome, but I can't stand Joyce.

William Faulkner was a fighter pilot in WWI, wasn't he?

Can't. Sky's completely overcast and we've got an inch of snow on the ground. Winter just does not want to go away this year.

I use eclipses to pretend that I have magical powers to people from ancient civilizations.

Moon is nearly fully covered. It looks amazing.

Edit: Dark part kind of looks like Coruscant.

It rained all night here so I missed it.

We all missed it here, too, our excuse being that we were all dog-tired from our Passover seder.

Are you familiar with Prisoners of the Sun in the Adventures of Tintin series? It includes a scene where that exact thing happens.

I had to go to bed, and it was raining anyway.

But I saw a lunar eclipse like 15 years ago. In Canada. So really once you've seen it in a mystical fairy tale land, you can't top that.

Yes, that's where I got it from, but it's an often-used trope. Usually parodied these days when the ignorant savages point out that the eclipse is actually tomorrow.

Of course, the fun thing about the "savages" in that particular book is that, even though they are apparently not very advanced astronomy-wise, they do seem to be pretty advanced in other ways—as evidenced by the perfect archaic-ceremonial English they speak, complete with correct usage of forms of "thou"! :D

What, they spoke Finnish in my book. You must have broken copies.

Tho I'm wondering where they learnt it.

Yes I am. Do you know how many Swedes it takes to change a lightbulb? One to hold the bulb and hundred to turn the house.

I think the American version of that joke would end with "and one to shoot the new bulb package open with a 9 mm."

That shows your lack of knowledge. Finns were not Vikings, they were Kalevala land

EDIT: Also I can recommend to visit Helsinki, it is a wonderful city when it is not attacked by Iku-Turso
