I want that 12" Kylo Ren

 

I'm amazed by how much Kylo has grown on me.

My initial reaction was "rubbish name and Revan ripoff" and now I think "Kylo Ren" sounds pretty cool (not as cool as "Exar Kun", but, hey, baby steps) and I'm super into his look.

I'm still headcanoning that "Ren" is a linguistic corruption of "Revan" until it's explicitly proven otherwise, incidentally.

 

Well, we all have our flaws.

Funnily enough, given my original dismissal of him as a Revan clone, if I could change anything about his look now it would probably be to make him more Revanish. Just in the sense of giving him some kind of armour. I think he's kind of boring from the neck down.

 

Erm, Shannara is close to that, but it's been around for ages.

I'm offering a critique on one of the most popular EU characters being a self insert, which is more a criticism of SW or EU fans in general.

 

He wasn't a self insert in TSL, just super interesting. *grumble*

 

Same. I've actually really started to dig his appearance. (Even the ridiculous lightsaber design has grown on me!)

I also agree with you about the neck down. His clothing isn't bad, as some of the closeups of replicas people have cosplayed (assuming they're accurate about this) have made it seem like the stitching of the fabric is a bit corded, and not just a boring plain cloth, which gives it a slightly more appealing, sort of rugged look.

But yeah, still slightly boring though, but... maybe the plan is he'll get injured by Finn or something, and continue his Anti-Luke journey a step further by getting some cybernetic enhancements-- and so outfit adjustments-- which would flow directly into Luke having some "Don't turn into Vader" dialogue with him, etc?

The whole point of Revan at first was to be a self-insert--so people sitting at home go "oh ****, I fell to the dark side???" The genius of that whole reveal was that it made it personal for the player.

 

And the genius of the game as a whole is that it's the story of when Darth Sidious got a bump on the head and then saved the galaxy from the evil Darth Vader who, in his final moments, goes, "Wait, was it SUPPOSED to go this way?"

It probably would've been more emotional if I hadn't played through the game as a sort of Stalin Hitler, the Hitler who is also Stalin. As it stood it was just cool.

 

Ha. Yeah, that's actually what made it so cool for me--everyone jokes about how drastic the good/bad options can be in games like that, but even if you were the ****ing Pope it still turns out that you were an evil bastard a month ago.
