The Tea Party would correct you by saying "No, the party brought the freakin' government to its knees last month!" And then give each other high-fives. And then discuss with each other how they can do it even better NEXT time. Because, you see, they don't see what happened last month as a BAD thing for this country. They, for a brief while, saw the Promised Land - a government with "Sorry, We're Closed" signs on its doors. A shut-down government can't tax, can't spend on social programs, can't enforce land-use restrictions or other regulations, can't do all the wrong-bad-evil-no-good things it does because it's not there. So, as far as they're concerned, a country without a government is like a fish without a bicycle. (Well, the government was still kind of there, but only for "essential services" - you know, the military, the one thing they actually want to keep around.) So expect to see a lot more of last month so long as they maintain their stranglehold on the Republican Party. Because that wasn't a means to an end for them - it was an end unto itself.
