If you had to replace the archetypal characters of the saga with expanded universe characters that fill the same archetypes, whose personality, actions, and history would make for the best possible substitutions? Here?s my picks?

    Original Character: Luke Skywalker
    Archetype: The Hero
    EU Substitute: Quinlan Vos
    Why Quinlan deserves it:
In his search for the second Sith, Quinlan was temptation by the Darkside was far more believable, making his affirmation of being a Jedi all the more powerful
    Runner-up: Kyle Katarn

    Original Character: Anakin Skywalker
    Archetype: The Anti-hero
    EU Substitute: Galen Marek (Starkiller)
    Why Galen deserves it:
Galen turned the manipulations of his Sith masters against them in helping to form the Rebel Alliance and giving them their first major victory
    Runner-up: Cade Skywalker

    Original Character: Leia Organa
    Archetype: The Damsel
    EU Substitute: Jarael
    Why Jarael deserves it:
    She?s pretty hot
    Runner-up: Deliah Blue

    Original Character: Han Solo
    Archetype: The Scoundrel
    EU Substitute: Candreous Ordo
    Why Candreous deserves it:
Despite a gruff demeanor, Canderous always fought with honor and respect, eventually reuniting the Mandalorian clans
    Runner-up: Rav

    Original Character: C-3PO
    Archetype: The Comedic Sidekick
    EU Substitute: HK-47
    Why HK deserves it:
His sadistic humor is the welcomed antithesis of C-3PO?s whining.
    Runner-up: PROXY

    Original Character: R2-D2
    Archetype: The Heroic Sidekick
    EU Substitute: T3-M4
    Why T3 deserves it:
His mannerisms and loyalty are very reminiscent of canines.

    Original Character: Obi Wan Kenobi
    Archetype: The Mentor
    EU Substitute: Rahm Kota
    Why Rham deserves it:
Rham was the embodiment of the ?samurai Jedi? concept
    Runner-up: Jolee Bindu

    Original Character: Yoda
    Archetype: The Ancient Sage
    EU Substitute: K?Kruhk
    Why K?Kruhk deserves it:
Having proved himself during the Clone Wars, Jedi Purge, Dark Times, and the New Jedi Order, K?Kruhk eventually became one of the high masters of the Legacy era
    Runner-up: T?ra Saa

    Original Character: Darth Vader
    Archetype: The Prodigal Hero
    EU Substitute: Darth Revan
    Why Revan deserves it:
In rejecting the full power of the Star Forge and preserving much of the Republic even as he made war upon it, Revan demonstrated a restraint that prevented the Darkside from mastering him and furthered his goal of keeping the galaxy safe from the threats of both the True Sith and his fallen apprentice, Malak
    Runner-up: Asajj Ventress

    Original Character: Emperor Palpatine
    Archetype: The Necromancer
EU Substitute: Darth Kryat (A?Sharad Hett)
    Why Kryat deserves it:
Kryat?s implementation of the ?Rule of One? and rejection of power as an end revolutionized the Sith order more so than any before him
    Runner-up: Darth Nihilus

    Final product

    The Heroes:
    Quinlan Vos
    Jarael
    Canderous Ordo
    Rahm Kota
    K?Kruek
    HK-47
    T3-M4

    The Villains:
    Darth Revan
    Darth Krayt

I'm out of touch with EU. I've only heard of two of those characters, and neither I know much about.

The novelization of the game was released just a few days ago, so most everything is already known about the characters.
