I have always wondered if Imperial Star Destroyers were equipped with slidewalks or trams to maneuver around faster, like the ones you see in airports. I would assume that Vader would get tired of walking around the Executor for miles, unless he uses the force to speed run.

This reminds me of the bit in Spaceballs where Skroob has to run around the ship... "If I walked the movie would be over."

    Well, it would make sense.

I think the lift tubes the Death Stars and Star Destroyers had also work horizonally.

Vader seems like a Segway guy to me.

The smaller imperial officers could attempt to ride the mouse droids.

    The Empire used Wonka-vaters?

I guess the lifts in the star destroyers could move around horizontally, similiar to the turbolifts on the Enterprise in Star Trek.

Maybe there are monorail cars to get from one end to the other, with stops along the way?

I see it being kind of like the Washington DC metro, with different lines running throughout the ship.

I believe that 4LOM is right, I think that there are monorails to get somewhere horizonly, and turbolifts to get somewhere verticaly.

Have there ever been any cut-a-way illustrations made of a Star Destroyer?

These Imperial Star Destroyers are soo huge that there just might be cities inside, from shopping malls, apartment complexes, to themeparks, like in Spaceballs, where Colonel Sanders was giving the alert to close all shopping malls, 3 ring circuses, etc. Maybe they should have renamed the Executor, Imperial City 1 or something.

the Incredible Cross-Sections book shows a cut-away star destroyer. I can't remember if it shows any elevators or "slidewalks" though.

Considering that the Star Destroyers, particularly the super star destroyers, are basically living space cities, I don't see why not. It would be impossible to carry out orders rapidly and efficiently over large sections of the ship without some sort of automatic transportation system. Though walkways would have to be provided for manual movement within restricted secters of the ship, there would still have to be connecting systems in between specific sections of the ship. (And in the case of the ships like the Executor, consider how impossible it would be to memorize the entire layout of the facility as well. It would be ridiculous to expect everyone to move around manually.)

I don't remember seeing any obese Imperials. Perhaps they did have to walk everywhere.
