Are the boards the only thing on TFN that are supposed to be family-friendly?

I'm asking this because I'm not sure if the whole website is, or if the boards are the only thing. two reasons:

There is an ad for strong Vodka in the
    holonet section

I got a porn pop-up once plus I keep getting these "shoot Sadam! Shoot Osama!" ads

This site is run by IGN; correct?

I believe the site is hosted by IGN, and I've only once got a pop up from this site (months ago).

Can you provide a link for the holocron section? I simply don't venture much beyond these boards, and wouldn't know where to look.

Also, the family-friendly issue was raised in the AC update here, you should probably take up this discussion over there.

    Thanks!

If it falls under the TFN name, then you can bet it's subject to the family friendly rule.

I think, though I'm not sure, that sometimes pop-ups like that can come up if you have a program such as Kazaa or something of the like, they can randomly give pop-ups...

Things like porn pop-ups tend to be on your computer or are related to other browsers that you have open (no, I'm not accusing you of anything :p ). That should account for some of the ads you've seen. Some of the milder ones (Vodka ads) might be IGN ones, which TFN doesn't have a lot of control over. We can ask them to remove ads that we find inappropriate, but AFAIK, we can't screen new ones.

A Vodka ad isn't really inappropriate. You see alcohol on TV all the time.

It's the biggest sponsor of most sports.

Beer is a big advertiser at sporting events. Hard liquor ads aren't allowed on network tv in the US. NBC was thinking of allowing them, but got a lot of slack from groups (see story). A vodka ad is different than a Bud light commercial.

I have also seen the occasional popup add while on the JC  before you mention p2p software, I don't run anything other than IE cause I'm not allowed to at work (that includes p2p or IM software).

wasn't the mysterious popups mentioned in a thread a few months back?

Well, if you see any, please take a screen shot of the ad, and also of any JC pages you have loaded, then pass them on to us. That way we can try and work out which banner is doing it.

If you see anything questionable, send it to starwars@theforce.net immediately and we'll kill it.

Pretty lame...Like it matters? They both gets you drunk.

Not that I think people should be drinking outside of moderation anyway. I'm over 21 and only have hard lemonade and such.

Yeah, we had a couple of ads not long ago. They were new IGN ads, and when it became clear that they were JC popups, the administration got IGN to take them off.

Thats pretty much the way its always been for popups. As soon as there are some that we know arises from the JC, the administration nip it in the bud.

They do it pretty well, actually. Although it would be preferable if IGN could just not give the JC popup ads in the first place.

Porn popups are a different matter, altogether. Every now and again, there are people that get porn popups, but not enough to really say its a JC thing. Often, noone seems to be able to find out why the popup happened.

Sometimes the ads are a result of Spyware - have you scanned your comp for it?

This whole site is meant to be as family frendly as Star Wars, but then. however, it is hosted by IGN, like said, and there are various things that slip out at IGN's fault, but overall, this site is meant as family frendly.

I don't think the liquor ads are inherently bad. In general they're fairly responsible and don't advocate drinking to excess, which is mainly what the TOS is against.

Speaking of inappropriate images, I think THIS icon is completely inappropriate for a family-friendly site!!!

    [image=http://www1.theforce.net/jc/icons/halloween/001_ghost.gif]

Look at the "J" and "C" letters! They look like the ghost is fondling himself with his hands!
