What does pronouncing it like that have anything to do with an American accent? The English pronunciation, American or Australian, would be "Kuhn", which sounds downright awkward. "U" is pronunced "oo" in most languages, and English is the exception. The IPA even uses the character "u" for "oo". "Koon" makes more sense, and it has nothing to do with an American accent (which wouldn't even say it like that).

Yeah, I've always said KOON. . . guess that makes me weird, huh?

But for the life of me, I can't figure out how to pronounce Ysalamiri. It comes out differently every time I try to say it. . Oh well!

Kun sounds darker as a K-u-n rather than a c-oo-n which is a type of cheese.

By the way coon is derogatory slang for indigenous Australians.

Five points deducted for mispronouncing a creature from Greek mythology! Shame on you! ;) :D

Denial, Hydronium, is a succulent dish. Once tasted, it becomes hard to detain. But I'm confident you're up to the job. We need more Griff Vaos. [face_peace]

Homeworld 2 pronounces Chimera as Ky-meera . . . Oh wait, they're American too.

I've heard at least 3 ways of Chameleon; an Aust ad says Kee-mee-leon.

Bottom line is, there's not really an official pronounciation. Why? Because why aren't we talking the shakespearian way of that time? Diction changed; and congressor is a legit word. You don't, after all, say senatorman and senatorwoman, so why do you say congressman?

    [face_flag]

Try pronouncing "Zhirrzh". Or "Fsss" Or "Thrr". Fun times, I tell ya.

I used to always mispronounce Jaina as "Jay-ne-uh" (And still do, sometimes).

The only other one I can think of is Noghri = "Kno-gir-ri" (Still do that one sometimes.)

I, too, never noticed the l in Iblis until the last time I read the Thrawn Trilogy 'bout a month ago, too.

I always thought I was pronouncing Lumiya correctly "Loo-Mee-ah". But in this thread it looks like some officials from a C3 panel are pronouncing it 'Loo-My-ah'. I think I'll stick with my pronunciation.:p

I used to pronounce Jaina "Jay-nee-ah" (and in fact, sometimes do), but now I also pronounce it "Jay-nah"

For me Kashyyyk has always been "Cash-eek"

    Exar Kun is "X-R Koon"

Xizor is "Zizor" (rhymes with scissor)

Before TPM I read Coruscant as "Kore-US-kent" which although I use the movie pronunciation, helps me a lot spelling coruscant when writing on thses boards. i even say it to myself when I'm writing coruscat. Well, there I go again :p

    Ulic Quel-Droma = "You lick Kell-Dromah" :p

    Mrykr for me is "My-kur" 8-}

Mit'traw'nuruodo(sp?) I pernounce with an elvish accent [face_blush]

Tahiri I have always pronounced completely wrong. I pronounce it "Tari." I know it's wrong and have tried to change it, but "Tahiri" has never felt right :p

For Zsinj I make the "s" silent so it's Zinj

Tsavong Lah I've heard of people having trouble with, and I'm pretty sure I say it correctly. I blend the "t" and the "s" so I make a "tss" sound and ad a short "a" at the end to make it "Tsa." If anyone here is familiar with the japanese alphabet, I pronounce "tsa" much like the character "tsu" is pronounced.

    Ooryl Qrygg(sp?) I pronounce Oo-ryll Qu-rgg.

I pronounce Palpatine rhyming with "mine" instead of rhyming with "teen" as said in the PT. I don't think either are wrong. I think it's just two different pronunciations of the name :)

    And as I said, Iblis=Ibis ;)

    EDIT: I pronounce Lumiya "Loo-mee-ah"

Wasn't the SW one named after the BSG one? And in any event, I follow the "Iblee" pronunciation.

When I was younger, I pronounced:
    -"Coruscant" as "Coruskant"
    -"Xizor" as "Shishor."
    -"Mon Calamari" as "Mon Cal-AH-mer-ai."
    -"Executor" as "Execute-or."

I still pronounce "Borsk Fey'lya" as "Borsk Feyla." And "Ken" as "Satan."

"coon" is also an old racial slur for african-americans that is rarely used.

By the way, is Zekk pronounced "Zeek" with a long e, or "zeck" with a short e?

I wouldn't know. All the loyalist Imperials are gone. ;)

But yes, as a man of history, I do so enjoy living in the past.

Another: Cilgahl = "Psi-gall". I never notice the first 'l' when I see the name.

I used to pronounce Zsinj as "Zit-zinge-Ee" due to a friend in 3rd grade, but no longer.

I can't think of anything else off the top of my head, but if I encounter something, I'll say it.

    I pronounce Ysanne Isard (another dreaded Y-name, Ex! :p ) as Yes-anne. Don't ask why, I just do :p
