    Star Wars: Vehemence.
    AKA "Girl Fight" :p

ETA? Couldn't tell ya. It depends on how long it takes me to rotoscope the thing. We film on August 10th, and I'll have the draft cut edited a day or two afterwards. Then I'll just have to add the effects, which could take months, seeing as how I'm just one man.

EDIT: And Funk-E.. get over it. ;) They'll look -FINE- once I've finished all the work. They looked good in Furious Angels, they'll look good in here. Breathe man, just breathe. And don't base the blade size off the photoshopped pictures I post on here. They're old and slightly bent, so I have to exaggerate the size. The blades we're using for filming are brand-spaking-new.

If you have no life (like me) you could have the effects done in days. But I guess the only times I did that was when I had a due date two or three days after filming. Anywho, cool costumes man :) Good luck!

Well, once I'm at school again, I will officially have no life, so we'll see. Maybe it won't take long at all.

Days? Hmm. That's a long stretch to move dots from one place to another (in AE). Mind-numbing, ya know?

    We will see. ::Queen Amidala::

I'm curious: Will this be the first person of African descent in a fanfilm?

It's quite possible. I'd have to look into that.

It will be the first girl vs. girl fight, I'm pretty certain of it.
Correct me if I'm wrong though.

I'm pretty sure that Revelations has a girl-girl fight, though that's not out yet.

No -- there was one of African descent in "Jedi Hunter" -- the "Mace Windu"

Also, Matrix fan films have had people of African descent as "Morpheus"

And the bad guy in Way of the Force was. But they never finished the film, they just have two trailers.

Well, The Matrix Regurgitated was a what looked like a white guy with brown makeup and bald head wig.

Eh. I don't suppose it really matters. She was simply the girl who wanted the job.

    'Nuff said.

    Ugh.

    You're right Funk-E. They're not 3/4 inch.

The hilts are made out of 1-1/4 inch tubing. Hence the blades would be just under 1-1/4 thick. They're probably 1-1/8.

:[face_sigh]: Whatever. I like em, they work.

    I -KNEW- it.

I'd imagine that they're heavy as hell, since they're so big, though? Wouldn't switching to a smaller size make choreography easier once you're filming?

Also, the hilts are really -long-. They're nearly four hand-lengths! I'd think that'd make one-handed maneuvers tough.

They're not as heavy as they look. They have SOME weight to them, but I prefer it that way, so yeah.

And the hilts are merely 12 inches long.. isn't the standard size like 10 inches? I simply didn't have the tools to cut the pipe, or I would've. (A handsaw would've been too messy and too hard.)

Y'sure they're only 12 inches? They look much longer, and I was right before :).

Either way, with such huge blades, made out of wood...I wouldn't want to be fighting with those. Good luck making the choreography look good, especially with girls whom (I'm assuming from their builds and probably overgeneralizing as well here, don't kill me) probably don't have any stage combat experience.

    ::kills you::

The girl playing the villain has been taking fencing classes for years. Granted, it's a different style, but she knows how to use a sword. My hero is new to swordfighting, but she's picking up quickly, and she's getting quite good and fast at it.

    It'll look good.

And TRUST ME. They are 12 inches.

So did you just use standard 1 1/4 pipe extension pieces?

    EDIT

And I just noticed but did you rap them in electrical tape?

If those are 1-1/4" tailpieces, 1" PVC is a lot lighter and easier to swing. Not to mention, a 10' piece of PVC (from which 2-4 blades can be made) goes for the price of one 36" long, 1" diameter dowel.

They'll be easier for your actresses to swing, and cheaper to replace when one breaks.

if you do so, make sure you wrap it with electrical tape so that if the PVC breaks, it won't hit anyone ;)

but I have had success with pvc so far :D
