I relize that those movies weren't as exceptional as Star Wars and Indiana Jones, but I have always wanted to see them on DVD in Widescreen to see some of George Lucas' ideas and how he projected them.

Any Ideas of them being or coming out?

Both Willow and Howard the Duck are available on DVD. Willow just came out last year I believe.

THX-1138 is only available on VHS video.

Ooops me bad, you are right Howard is only VHS too. I saw it at a video store a few weeks ago and my mind automatically assumed it was the DVD.

Willow's a good flick, and THX-1138 is seen as important in the "serious" sci-fi world, but Howard The Duck should be consigned to one of those mineshafts that they bury nuclear waste in.

Besides, Howard contains one of the finest examples of stop motion, the Dark Overlord himself, done by Phil Tippett.

SciFi/porn?!?!?! Would you care to elaborate? You, besides the lustful feelings for Lea Thompson in 80s rocker costume ;-).

The love scene (if I remember right)? Heck there are things now much worse on regular TV, commercials and music videos ;-).

    Sure, he'll elaborate.

The "love scene" you refer to, and jp so graciously reminds us of (curse you jp-30!!) features Lea in wayyyy skimpy underwear. Practically g-string status. And has her bending over in it facing away from Howard while he comments and says that hes "come to appreciate the female form of this planet."

Howard also gets a job in a whore-house which has people making out naked (though to be fair no actual sweet spots are seen, theyre always just barely covered by some fingers or something). But still, thats not kids stuff. The chicks are still topless, and the guys arent much better. *shudder*

    Dont forget the duck boobies!

And Howards issue of Playduck featuring MORE duck boobies.

Various references to sex throughout the movie. Tim Robbin's, "No sex tonight, Ive got work to do" comes to mind. And Howard's condom. (Why was he carrying a USED one around, anyway??)

    ...This is not kids stuff.

I love all 3 of these movies. I must have seen Willow about 10 times when I was a little kid(my parents were cool about violence etc in movies). I have only seen THX-1138 once when it came on pay tv where I live but I thouht it was awesome. it's been ages since I have seen Howard the Duck.

Ahhh thanks. I do remember the Playduck thing and condom, but I'm drawing an almost blank on the whore house sequences. Did they really show that much, LOL. It's been years since I watched it last.

I found Willow on DVD for only $5,that was a sweet deal.

As for Howard the Duck its only out on VHS,i've never been able to find it on DVD and i even asked a guy working at Best Buy if it was available on DVD and after he checked and said no he said something along the lines of it being too horrible to be worth putting on DVD because it wouldnt make enough money [face_plain]

Although i disagree, one thing about the movie,It does have alot of sexual overtones and thats nasty because many of them involve a talking Duck and a Human woman, and if thats not bad enough theres a topless female duck in a bathtub and naked female ducks in Howards PlayDuck Magazine, although i can relate to Howard lusting after Leai Thompson when shes in her underwear.

Well problem is we get overly sanitized movies nowadays and the current climate makes it feel funny when stuff like that is played. At least in the 80s we didn't need to appologize for exploitative movies. Sure a lot of that stuff was bad, but just because you had sexual innuendos, or even T&A it didn't mean it was bad.

Oh and I wouldn't trust any comments like that from people at best Buy. Like I heard somewhere, the slogan should be "You got questions, we got blank stares" ;-). Kinda reminds me the pimply teen attendant at a theatre when he said The Informer was a boring movie and couldn't recommend it...

Willow was a cool movie at the time it was released and I always thought it borrowed a lot from LORD OF THE RINGS. Not that there's anything wrong with that!
Ron Howard did a fine job with it.

Quite an irony that the real Lord of the Rings got shot in New Zealand, the same
    location for Willow.

    I don't own a DVD of Willow.
    I need to get one.

I own Willow on VHS (I'll get around to a DVD version eventually). It is a favorite of mine. It has a great story, nice effects, and a great cast.

One could say that most of today's sword & sorcery movies are based on Tolkien's works. Certainly D&D was.

I don't think they're forgotten. They're just overshadowed by Star Wars and Indiana Jones. I'm sure there is still a cult following of Willow and Howard the Duck.
