Are we asking the wrong question about Krayt?

We keep dancing around who Krayt will be but maybe we should throw Occum's Razor at it. Maybe we should ask who Krayt cannot be and then we shall throw light on who he will be.

He cannot be Luke.
He is obviously male.

 

He cannot be Yoda.

Yoda is green and dead.

 

He's not Emperor Palpatine.
He's not Ben Skywalker.
He's not Jacen Solo (he's also of the line of Skywalker)
He's not Darth Bane
He's not Darth Nihilus
He's not Darth Annedu
He's not a non-Force Sensitive

 

That's what he WANTS you to think!

 

He's... not non-humanoid.
He's not a Vong.

 

You say this why?

 

His holocron entry makes it pretty clear.

 

He could be Waru.

He's not Kyle Katarn. If he were, the series would have only lasted one issue. If that long.

 

Yeah, and if he were Vong methinks the Vonduun crab armor wouldn't be a big deal, neither the fact that he has it nor the health issue.

 

The question we should be asking is how Roan Fel is getting from Bastion to Coruscant and back again so fast.

 

The same way Sidious got from Coruscant to Mustafar and back again so fast, I'd wager.

Didn't the authors somewhere say, we should ask why is Krayt here, and not who he is?

 

That's exactly right...both John and Jan have said on repeated occasions that the real question we should be asking ourselves is not who Krayt is, but why he is.

Not really. In fact, wouldn't it be more surprising if his identity wasn't something utterly and completely shocking in and of itself?

Though truth be told, I've been leaning towards "anticlimax" ever since that quote about the "why" being more interesting than the "who." He might take off that mask and be...no one we recognize. Or someone that elicits a collective "meh" from much of the readership. (Is anyone clamoring for it to be Korto Vos or A'Sharad Hett?)

Once again, I suspect his "unmasking" is just the beginning. The real story will spin out from there.

 

He can't be a Vos, or he'd switch Force sides every other page

 

I'd say the importance of WHY he is ties in with the current Legacy novels. Some semblance of the Sith remain...maybe the Jedi don't come out on top.

 

I'm still hoping that Ken Palpatine is Krayt.

 

Three Theories On Why Krayt Exists-

1. Darth Lumiya created Darth Krayt. She rediscovered Darth Plagueis's experiments. Lumiya used the midiclorians themselves to create Krayt. So in a manner of speaking Krayt is akin to Anakin Skywalker. A vergence/virgence (sic) in the Force.

2. Darth Lumiya managed to create a clone of Luke Skywalker. She raised this clone as her son. She used the Vong War as a test of this clone. This clone earned himself a Sith Lord name during the Vong War - that name was Darth Krayt.

3. Darth Lumiya as Shira Brie had a romantic union with Luke Skywalker prior to the mission that nearly killed her. The result was a son that Luke had no knowledge of. Lumiya raised the boy as a Sith apprentice. He earned his Sith Lord name during the Vong War.

Note-

In the novel LOTF Book 4: Exile Luke states to Mara he and Shira/Lumiya did not have a physical relationship. So theory number three is on very shakey ground. It could be that Shira/Lumiya 'erased' Luke's memory of a physical relationship - not unlike how Jacen Solo 'erased' Ben Skywalker's memory.

I'm starting to think he's probably someone we haven't met yet. Whether he is introduced in LOTF or some time after remains to be seen...but going over the usual suspects is just mind numbing and in the end no will be happy because we've picked apart the logic behind eveyone, so whoever it is will be wrong.

 

As much as I hate to say it, Luke could be lying. Heck I probably would to if Mara was my wife. She'd go crazy.
