Are we ever going to get that word filter fixed?

In attempting to have a discussion on the classification of different species of humans, that idiotic word filter once again intervened and starred out the genus that our species belongs to (H O M O). This isn't exactly a new problem, and it's been mentioned before, but never addressed. Can that word be taken out of the filter? I cannot believe stopping the couple of times it's used offensively (and honestly, anyone who uses a gay slur offensively would probably go for a lot worse) is worth not being able to have a simple discussion on biology or taxonomy.

I'm confused - I didn't think the word filter blocked the use of the prefix homo-
Certainly in the homosexuality thread in the senate users use homosexual without being auto-edited.

It appears to be a random thing and is dependant on the board as well for some strange reason.

    Homosapiens
    homogenous
    ****
    ****-
    **** sapiens
EDIT: Looks like it might be just the word alone.

Like DDH said, just the word by itself.

It also seems to have edited out your use of it as a freestanding prefix when I quoted it, though I guess as a mod, it didn't edit it from your original post.

so it only edited the prefix homo

if that's the case, then do we actually have a problem ? When would you use 'homo', without using sexual, sapients, mer etc etc ?

As far as I was aware, even if we have a problem, it's only something that ZeroSleep can control.

Like Malkie said, when you use the word without the hyphen it doesn't edit it. It just edits when used alone (in this case the filter doesn't "see" the hyphen).

    What about this one?
I never did get an answer from Sapes.

Did HE star out the F in the FTW (being silly), or did it think he was typing those letters in reverse and edit him?

He was just being silly because we have to star out the F in other things.

The filter does not edit Moderators/Managers/Admins.

    Yes, it does.

"Scientists discovered a new species of human, **** floresiensis, a few years back. Shorter than **** sapiens, it blah blah blah."

Hoooooooomo sapiens et al. are two words, and the first is always edited.

New discovery when writing this post: if I try to quote malkie and the word "h omo" is in his post, it removes the second part of the quote tag for some reason.

We can check into it. I think it may be something zerosleep would have to change. We admins can go in and take things out of the word filter, but it doesn't appear to change.

Just to test it, I took out homo by itself.

Don't know if that works. If the rest of the MS is okay with it being out, I'm fine with it. It should only be edited in the context "gay" is, i.e. when used derogatorily.

I'm OK with it being out - it normally doesn't crop up in Collecting anyway.

I've had the auto-filter star out the word **** before too. The word c-o-c-k isn't always in an obscene context, you know.

So is "homo" still being starred out automatically? It won't when I post, but did you just try to post it, wanderguard?

Dammit. It must not update when we change it. It's something we'll have to ask zerosleep about, and with the updates and stuff he's been doing, it's not going to be high on his list of priorities right now. For right now, post the word together (i.e. homosapiens). Sorry.

Or just use the common convention in research papers, i. e. just initial the genus name: H. sapiens, H. neanderthalensis, H. erectus, etc.

If we can't say "****", we shouldn't be able to say "erectus" either.

Why not? Erection's not censored either. Besides, it just means "standing" as in walking on two feet.

Yes I'm sure this is a huge deal.
People use HomoSapiens in daily conversation all the time.

I'm sure I say Homogenized more than that.
