Aren't you a little short for a Stormtrooper?

Was watching ANH at the weekend when an interesting thought occured to me..........

How can Luke's Stormtrooper oufit be any shorter than a regular Stormtrooper's outfit? As we all know, the original troopers were all clones. Presumably, this means that all the outfits were mass produced & all the same size.

In Tatooine Ghost, Leia complains that her Stormtrooper disguise is chafing her as the legs are too long & that she is walking a little threepio-esque.

Since Luke is shorter than Leia, surely he would have also suffered from this problem. However he is able to walk normally. The only thing he complains about is not being able to see properly. (This cannot be explained by him being too short to look out of the visor either as otherwise from the outside, his suit would have looked the same size as a regular trooper's)

Which leads me to the question: Did he alter his suit to make it shorter? (i.e; remove a section of the legs?) Also, if Leia noticed the difference, why didn't the officers (or the other troopers for that matter) on the Death Star notice that one of their Stormtroopers was about a foot shorter than normal!?!?!?!?

 

Not all Stormies are the same size.

 

And to add to what the above poster said, who's the say Leia wasn't making a wisecrack?

Temuera Morrison is 5'7". Mark Hamill is 5'9", which would mean that he was actually taller than the original Stormies. However, they may have changed the height requirements since the Clone Wars.

Interestingly enough, Boba Fett, Jango's son is 6'1" as portrayed by Jeremy Bulloch. Isn't he a little tall for a clone?
