    1. Way to choose the juicy part of the story....since
is the part of the story you SHOULD be focusing on.

    2. I guess this guy just read Phillips' American Negro Slavery (published in 1918) and never bothered with any of the numerous rebuttal pieces.

    EDIT

    3. The guy is self-published. That's all you need to know.
No peer review + No editors = No damn good.

I'm beginning to think my dear ole GOP may need to begin issuing shock collars to their members anytime they say something stupid.

Why are we quoting the last major party candidate to run on a pro-segregationist platform trying to criticize someone?

Barry Goldwater was pretty much completely responsible for the position the GOP is in now.

I'll never, ever again say that the GOP can't get any worse.

Just waiting for the day when one of them praises the Holocaust.

He could at least have said a "mixed" blessing.

I think that already happened a few years ago, when one of them thanked God for the Holocaust because it led to the creation of Israel and kicking Muslims out of the Holy Land.

Well, I mean, sure it put roofs over SOME privileged heads. Of course this was after they had already been, you know, kidnapped, bought and sold like property. So it's the equivalent of saying "What's the problem? I pulled some of you guys out of that burning house... After I doused it in gasoline and took a blowtorch to it while you were all asleep."

Thurmond was a hypocrite who fathered a child with a black woman. This guy from Arkansas is a damn fool.

Well, he's right about one thing: I am conspiring to create a bloody revolution. But I'm not conspiring with Muslims, just with myself.

[sarcasm ]Ah, Bible-thumping zealots. They are soooo gosh-darn cute. [/sarcasm]

I can't facepalm harder than I already did. Otherwise I might end up ripping my face off.

Goldwater wasn't a segregationist, exactly. (He had helped desegregate the army, and had supported prior Civil Rights bills) However, he believed that private businesses should be allowed to discriminate if they wanted to. Do I think that's a good idea? Hell no. But I don't think the guy was a racist. More like a libertarian. He'd never survive in today's party. His politics, however, enabled racism to flourish. Goldwater was cool, though. He once said all Christians should kick Jerry Falwell's ass. That gets points in my book.

And this is coming from a hardcore liberal (born and raised)
