Around The Horn Fantasy League (almost time for a new game)

Ladies and Gentleman, welcome to the first installment of the Around the Horn Fantasy League�� (ATHFL). This is a little dream of mine to put together, I hope that all the participants will have fun playing. The way I see it in my head is fun, so ... maybe. . So on to the rules of play.

The Participants
There will be two types of participants in this game: the commissioner and the GM's.

The Commissioner: Will be yours truly. It will be my job to post show results, and update points/rankings. Since this is the first ATHFL, I am open to all suggestions and help (either posted here or PM'ed).

The GM's: I'm hoping to get 8-16 of you signed up. It is your job to send in your weekly roster (talked about later).

Competing
At the beginning of each week, GM's Must submit their Starting Lineup for that week via PM. The Deadline for submitting rosters to the commish is 9pm PST Sunday Night. If the GM chooses to post their roster, that is their choice, but only PM'ed rosters will be accepted. If a GM forgets or doesn't PM the commish, then the starting lineup will be randomized. This is the players list you can chose from.

You can choose any ONE player from the list for any day of the week.

For example, your PM could look like this:

Monday - Blackastone
Tuesday - Ryan
Wednesday - Smith
Thursday - Mariotti
Friday - Paige

You can also chose "Mystery Guest" for any day, and if any one other then players 1-10 show up, then that is your player for that day.


Point System
Each player will gain points based on the performance of their selected ATH participant. Scoring will be based on the following:

+2 points if your player wins a Showdown
+1 point if your player makes the Showdown
-1 point if your player is cut during the second cut
-2 points if your player is cut during the first cut
+1 point if your player sweeps the Showdown

If you have any questions about the point system, post and ask or PM me, and I will try and explain more. If for some reason the point system doesn't work, then there is always hope for a second version of ATHFL in the future. After the league is over we can tweak the system for the second installment. Also if I mess up on the points for that day, correct me, I'm only as perfect as you.

Prizes and Punishment
After four weeks of play, the user with the highest point total will be given 24 hours of VIPship and colors. The user with the lowest point total will be given a 24-hour game ban. In the case of a tie for first, all tied users will be given 24 hours of VIPship and colors, and in case of a tie for last, all tied users will be given a 24-hour game ban.

Sign-ups will run through approximately Sunday, right? As in people can sign-up right until the deadline to submit a roster?

 

Wait until next Monday to start the game. The weekend is usually slow, and you shouldn't have a real hard time getting more players. Though, you have to realize that a lot of the sports fans that post here are out of the U.S. and probably don't even get ATH. There should be plenty of people to have a fun game, though.


PS, If I have the time this afternoon, I might send you a draft for this week, just for a pravtice run and to make sure I have the game understood. Hope you don't mind.

 

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Around the Horn, but like to play games around here, this link might help. I don't think actual knowledge or watching of ATH is needed to play this game, to be honest.

How does the Mystery Guest thing work? Do you just choose Mystery guest as your option for one of the days?

On the topic of mystery guest, would it be ok to choose one for a certain day, but to add a regular guest as a default, if there is no mystery guest that day?

 

As I understand it, when you choose mystery guest, if anyone other than the first ten listed show up, that's your guy/gal for the day. And if you choose them and there is no mystery guest, then you get zero points that day, which is a better result than the negative two points you get for having the guy/gal who gets cut first. Same for if you pick anyone who isn't on that particular day.

 

Hmm...perhaps this is more complicated than I originally anticipated. Well with me playing at least y'all won't have to worry about the game ban cuz I will surely being going into the negative points!

yes and no...if we don't have a big turn out i will leave the signups open...it is not out of the realm of possibilities that someone could come in late and be competitive...since it's the 1st version we can change as we go along

Bill Plaschke you would get 2 points
Michael Smith you would get 1 point
Jay Marioti you would get -1 points
Woody Paige you would get -2 points

And if you had anyone else, you would get zero points.

 

Ok so we also don't get to know ahead of time who is actually on the show?

 

nope...unless you're really good....but if you are that good...i would assume you'd be in vegas betting

Is Tim Cowlishaw still going to be a regular panelist now that he's on that NASCAR Now nonsense?

 

I would join this time around, but my spring break begins next friday, and I probably am going to have limited web time until I get back.

 

i'm not sure...a lot of the other panelist do other gigs too

you only need to PM me once a week...so if you want to play, it doesn't take a whole lot of time

 

I would expect Cowlishaw would still participate fairly regularly, but I don't know that for certain.

i think for the 1st time around i will leave sign ups open until the 2nd week of competition...and we might not use the game ban option if someone comes in late...depends on what you all think

 

if you guys want to start this bad boy early...let me know...i'm not sure if we're gonna get more sign ups

 

Might as well just wait until after this weekend, starting next week. It would be too difficult to get everybody's votes for just the last two days this week.
