Say, those are all really nice Dark Guardian! I always admire those artists who seem to be able to draw vehicles from every conceivable angle with apparent effortlessness. "The Fall of the Knight Hammer" is especially impressive!

    Thanks for the comments.
"The Fall of the Knight Hammer" was a fast composition I did shortly before i went on holiday, but it turned out well. When I read the book for the first time, I imagined the scene to be like this. Maybe not from this camera angle, but its hard to find pictures of an SSD from an angle you'd like to have. But like I said, it turned out well. I like it. But mabe you're right, FF, I should add some heat glowing. Maybe later. I'm currently working on some other pictures: the Intimidator/Pride of Yevetha, a new version of Battle of Praestylin and two clone commando pictures...

Like I said in a previous post, I never liked the picture of the Guardian...
So here's version 2: SSD Guardian

    I really like it now.

So here is, as promised, the pic of the Intimidator:

I hope you like it as I do.

Ah, another wonderful composition, Dark_Guardian! I like the use of black-and-white here--it's very effective. This looks almost like a commemorative print/plaque, presented at the ship's first launch--a very interesting font here (although it's a bit difficult to read...), and I'm curious as to where you got the images of the builders/species and the standard between them: are these your own invention, and if so, well, well done!

And on the "Revenge of the Force Zombies:" [face_laugh] Yeah, that would've been sweet, to have a nice "backlash" concerning Order 66!

    Thanks.
The black/white is effective, yes, but also very necessary: The Starcluster in the background, for example, is a compusition of many different stars/nebulas/cluster-pictures, all in different colours. So, to let them look like one, they must be in one colour. Black and white lokks good for me in this picture (Also in the Lusankya one), but as seen in SSD Guardian yellow-gold can also look very good. [face_love]

It is, but it fits to the ship's name, IMO. I try to find the best one for every SSD.

Well, I haven't done these by myself, just the composition: the two guys are General Ethan A'bath (left) from Cracken's Threat Dossier and Viceroy Nil Spaar (right) from The Essential Chronology.
As for the standart: Google is such a wonderful thing: type in sword and look for the one that looks just simly cool/awesome. Same with the imperial seal. Then put them together and put a Banner with "Black Sword Command" on them. Ready.

Like mentioned in a previous post, every component of the picture has a meaning/is a symbol in the ship's history:
    The Koornacht-Starcluster
    Ethan A'bath and Nil Spaar
    The "Black Sword Command"
    The Flames

-BTW, the next pictures will be "SSD Whelm" and/or "SSD Reaper"

So, here's the Reaper. This time in a light blue colour. I did the planets myself, everything else is again a collection from the net.

Oh, nice! Another monochromatic piece! Again--very effective here, particularly with this vessel's name: Reaper. The skull in the Imperial seal is a sort of creepy but entirely appropriate metaphor, too--this was her mission, after all... I like the positioning of the planets and the galaxy, too--nice balance there. Well done once again!

Ooo, very nice! I love the "carved stone" feel to this one--again, it resembles a commemorative plaque presented at the vessel's launch. The swarms of TIE fighters all around really emphasize the purpose of the ship--to make war. Very nicely done, Dark_Guardian!

Thanks, FF. The fleet and the planets are from Coruscant and the Core Worlds. The fleet is, according to the book, a "scene on Anaxes", IIRC, which was also the headquarter of the "Azure Hammer Command" of which the Whelm had been the flagship. So it is not sure if one of the ships on the picture is indeed the Whelm (because they look more like Acclamator-class ships), but I thought it would fit in.
For me, this picture gave me the feeling of what the Empire did to many planets: suppressing and enslaving. Original, I intended to add some antic reliefs that showed Prisoners and Slaves. But in the end, it turned out different for various reasons.

I had also planned to add an insignia of the "Azure Hammer Command" like I did with the "Black Sword Command" in the Intimidator-Picture. What is left of it are the two small hammers in the bottom left and right corner...
    Original, it looked that way:

Wow, cool art! Dunno if I've left a comment here before, sorry if I didn't. :(
Anyway, your art is very good.

    What program do you use?

Think my favorites are the submission for the challenge and your latest one, the star destroyer entering the unknown.

With that challenge one, I just love the eyes in there. The whole pic is very cool, but the eyes are what caught my eye.

About the star destroyer: Although it is obviously flying towards the light, the whole pic looks mysterious. That light in the dark seems really strange and unknown, almost dangerous.

    =D= Great job!

I use Paint Shop Pro 9, althogh I don't really know how to handle it. It's mostly try & error.

I'm also planning to do a new version of 'Into the Unknown'. It was just a quick work. I tried to learn how make a nebula and then put the SD in to make it a SW-Art.

    Anyway, thanks for the comments.

Dark_Guardian, Very cool artwork! Now that's original. I was always attracted by space renderings, stellar objects... I love your planets and nebulas!

I, too, work with PSP9. It sure is complicated to get your hands around but (IMO) it's easier than Adobe products, or Corel Painter that I have no idea how to deal with [face_plain] really, congrats :) It's an amazing work that you do. I also admire the precision you put into saber hilt conceptions! That's a problem that all artists face when they're drawing their characters' saber hilts, but you're the master builder :D

Hey Dark_Guardian! Great new pieces here! I'm really liking the lightsabers--such original designs--the first one really appeals to me, and I think it's because the emitter resembles an engine exhaust cowl of some sort! lol! Great work with the metallic surfaces, and wonderful rendering of the glowing blades (the slight "swell" of the energy as it first leaves the emitter is a very realistic touch!). I personally like the "Razor's Kiss:" your use of schematics in your work is very effective, and is also something we don't see much of--and the way you combine those engineering-type images with the splashes of starfields and planets is wonderful compositionally. The "Entering the Unknown" is beautiful--not too much, just enough to give us the feel of the vessel pushing into the uncharted nebula (which looks great, btw--I love the color of it!). Very nice composition on that one, too! Great new work--keep it up!

So, here's a new pic for the September/October Fan Art Challange '06:

    [image=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v216/Dark_Guardian/ISD_Data_komplett.jpg]

Just a new "ISD Datafile"... But this time in blue. (And I like blue... :p )

    So, comments?

Cool last piece, D_G! It's very bluey, and I'm liking the four little pictures around the schematic, it shows you know your stuff ;)

My favorite though, would be the SSD Whelm gray pic with its "sculpture" effect!! :D

    Thanks, Deanna.
As a 'Fleet Junkie', I'm supposed to know my stuff. The pictures were hard to find.
As for the Whelm pic, it was supposed to be another one in my series about 'Super Star Destroyers', but someone else mentioned that it looked like a plaque from the ship's bridge.

Very nice datafile, Dark_Guardian! I love the almost "blueprint" feel to this--very technical-looking, and very authentic! A unique and interesting take on the Challenge subject, that's for sure!

First, a blue one (of course):

And then, thanks to my brother, a more 'bloody' version:

I know they preferred the red version in the Challenge thread, but I really like the blue one here, Dark_Guardian--and that quote is perfect! lol!

The blue seems more dreamlike, and lends itself to the rather "ghostly" helmets floating above the galactic disk... That's my take on it, anyway! Nicely done!

Ghostly, yeah... That was what it was supposed to mean: Ghosts of the past and present, playing their part in galactic history.

Here's a new SSD, the Annihilator from Empure at War: Forces of Corruption.

Hey Dark_Guardian--very nice work here! I like the dark motifs/elements in this one, and the varying degrees of focus you've used work very effectively, with the figures in the b/g rather ghostly and the vessel itself nice and sharp. Great composition! And "Empire at War: Forces of Corruption"--is that a novel or a comic series? Just curious... Excellent work!
