Are they more Jedi than the council? Please inform my brain!!!
10,000 spread across the Republic.
As of AOTC, that number has dwindled down to roughly slightly more than 9,000.
There'll be perhaps a thousand or less remaining at the opening of Episode III.
it is amazing of the event from TPM to ROTS that cause these number to drop so dramatically
WAR...even the jedi are not that good.
After all...they are peace keepers not soliders
The galaxy became a much more dangerous place following Naboo.
The lion's share of these casualties occurred during the Clone Wars, of course, where roughly five to six thousand Jedi perished before even the first 15 months had passed (per SW: Republic #55). The rest get whittled down via attrition up through the third year of the war, where there are scarce hundreds remaining from those original ten thousands.
Of that bunch, hundreds perish when "Order 66" is given in Episode III, and the Stormtroopers turn on their Jedi generals, and all but half a dozen or so are hunted down and killed by Vader and the Empire over the next two decades.
