'raghead'. I've seen it crop up three times in the last week, so, I assume people are ignORant(see what I did there?) that this term is as bad as the n word, or the p word or the r-n word or the s-n word. While it might be okay for super chic country singers to use that term, it isn't here.

(Judge Hanson, this counts as my community service for this week)

KK EDIT: This question has been answered. The term is unacceptable, except with the possible exception of a discussion of the meaning of the term itself in the Senate. This thread has also gone off-topic, so I am locking it now.

It's a derogatory term for someone of Arab or Middle Eastern descent.

I've been editing and banning when appropriate if I see it, so feel free to let any of us know of any instances of that word which we may have missed.

Why is it inappropriate? I've never heard the term before.

I am, Hawk. And I see it get edited, but just thought a comms thread may help.

I did PM KW, but in case he doesn't get it before you see this, there is an instance in the JC in Darth_Glymmer's 'If you could switch places with anyone, who would it be?' thread.

I've complained about the term several times myself. It always gotten edited when I have, but imo it should be grounds for a ban.

I am shocked anyone would try to use that term on here. Thanks for the heads up Ignant.

I haven't seen that one myself, but I have seen some similar ones(like "towelhead" or "scarfhead"), and I agree that they're all not acceptable.

Is "Whitie" or "Cracker" inappropriate as well?

From my understanding, any term that is used in a derogatory way or is meant as a flame is not allowed. So "cracker" could be considered a flame unless used to describe the food. :)

    Just my two cents.

On a similar note - you know it seems to be ok for people to go on about killing and slaughtering terrorists or what they'd do to Osama bin Laden?

...is it ok for someone to bellow about killing US troops or hunting down the US president and filling him with bullets?

'Cause much as I think both sides in this weird 'war' are crazier than Mad Joe McMad, I'll happily give voice to the second sentiment if the first isn't moderated :)

The anti-Arab/Middle Eastern slur is definitely not allowed. And I call Ignant "Iggy Pop" already.

We have a very low tolerance for racist statements on the JC and if you use words like those mentioned above you most likely will receive no warning, but just a ban.

Because... that would imply that people seek a greater understanding of world events, which is just silly really.

And before someone sends me to the Senate forum, I don't post in there because the people who post in there are smarter than me. :(

    I'm stupid. 8-}

And not only that, but my enjoyment of poop jokes has kept me trapped in the Fecal Force, and I'm afraid people in the Senate won't take me seriously. :(

    (:D [face_dancing] I said "poop" [face_dancing] :D)

The second one has been edited multiple times in the past. Making threats against the President is a good way to get a visit from the Secret Service, even if you were joking.

I don't think I'll ever be welcome Stateside.

Luckily I live in the UK where I can safely upperdeck Buckingham Palace and make jokes about disembowelling the Prime Minister, inflating his large intestine & knotting it into novelty animal shapes without fear of repercussion.

However... I assume it's ok to respond to yee-haw rhetoric about killing terrorists with mad ranting about killing US troops?

    Are you serious? If so:

Usually yes, but it depends on the context.

    Waka Waka Waka!

But... we live in the land of the free here in the US... Freedom is on the march....
