IIRC there was something in one of the Insider magazines that siad that of Asajj Ventress and Durge one of them would die and the other would be changed in some way.

Durge is dead. There's no possible way that anyone can survive the being hurled into a Sun.

    Therefore if:

    (a) Durge is dead; and

    (b) The powers-that-be haven't changed their minds since writing that only one would die; then

    ASAJJ VENTRESS IS ALIVE! :D

    Yay!

Can she grow some hair? A good mullet wouldn't kill the art department. [face_mischief]

Nomi Sunrider only half of it though.

    The Sun Crusher did. :p

Anyways, the preview mentions that the comic reveals why Durge wears a mask. How come?

Ventress can't grow hair. It's against her people's beliefs.

The way it read to me, there was a voice box of some sorts in his mask that allowed him to speak. Without it, he couldn't communicate. That, or he was really ugly under it.

    It contains a mechanical voicebox.

Perhaps Asajj Ventress turns back to the light side, only to die during the Jedi Purge after the Clone Wars?

    "It contains a mechanical voicebox."

Makes sense, remember his mechanical sounding laughter on the cartoon?

    Nope.

Without it, he is only capable of inarticulate grunts and roars. Well, inarticulate to us anyway.

The dude's a collection of individual cell clusters, has no central nervous system, no internal organs, and you're wondering why he can't talk without a mechanical aid? :p

I still hope that when Obi-wan finds Ventress, she'll be a broken person, unable to fight, barely able to walk and forever scarred by the war. Not turned back to the light side but corrupted by the dark side into a state of madness after her defeat against Anakin. That would be the most powerful ending to Obsession.

Yeah, having her suddenly "see the light" after butchering nearly twenty Jedi would be stupid. I really hope they don't redeem her too much.

If you ask me, that's a hell of a lot more scary than the witty banter he delivers in the comics.

Well...not really. I guess from the way it's mentioned in the preview, I was kinda expecting some sort of "Anakin-Reveal-At-The-End-Of-ROTJ" kind of deal.

Yeah, having her suddenly "see the light" after butchering nearly twenty Jedi would be stupid. I really hope they don't redeem her too much.

Well, since she (and practically every other Jedi) are about to end up dead anyway, do you really think it matters?

I wouldnt be surprised at all if she lives and somehow avoids death during The Purge, this way the writers would have an already established Force-user (besides Vader and Palpy) to write books about during the long gap between RotS and ANH.

Kevin Anderson is different. Reality does not usually apply to his writing.

Why does she need to die? While it's already been decided, this would be a good outcome.

Kenobi strikes down Ventress, which will satisfy angry fans who say many feeble wizards fall to her in the most innane of ways. To all intents and appearances, she's dead.

Then she returns post-ROTS. The feeble wizard purge begins . . .

Durge: Obi, help me take this mask off.

    Obi-Wan: But Durgey, you'll die!

Durge: Nothing can stop that now. Just for once, let me see your face when you look on my own eyes.

    Sorry, not seeing it.

I don't think that Asajj Ventress will amount to anything other than an EU character.

Uh, no. She was once a Jedi Padawan and I don't think she'd go back.

That's because I was expecting something along those lines, not an out-and-out ripoff.

You mean like Durge slowly stripping and Anakin and him getting it on?

No. It's just...well, look at it this way. They pretty much hype up the situation in the preview, so do you really think that sort of hype is deserved for something like "Oh, he wears a mask so that he can talk?"

It's really anticlimatic that way, don't you think?

So more like the Nihilus de-masking than the Vader one, then?
