    Let's say I plan on visiting next year... where's the best place to stay in Edinburgh?

    Glasgow! Simple as that, a much better city to stay in with a lot more going on but near Edinburgh so that you can visit! If you insist on Edinburgh though there are numerous hotels, guest houses and the usual youth hostel!

    Everything you need here!

    Yes, Edinburgh as I would be doing genealogical research and most are from there. Although at some point Aberdeen and Glasgow would be on my list...

    I assume you mean apart from me Dan :p

    I would have to say William Wallace although I would say a lot of Scots are famous for many reasons and many inventions that have gone round the world. We are the People!!!

    Okay, okay, them too! 8-}

    Obviously it goes to show that the Scots are brilliant and have been throughout time, exploring, inventing, entertaining etc, etc! and a definitive list would be far too long! :p

    Meh.

    Stonehaven: Nice, tranquil (For the most part), has a beach, isn't plagued with pollution, the accent is understandable.
    Glasgow: Loud, abrupt, abrasive, corrosive atomosphere, polluted, no beach, accent is amusing but you need to work at it. Although Irn Bru... :p

    Glasgow is a blend of internationally acclaimed museums and galleries, stunning architecture, vibrant nightlife, fabulous shopping and superlative wining and dining which makes the city irresistable. Accents, I guess it depends on which part of Glasgow you are from but mine is very soft and easily understood by people from many nations.

    Time magazine recently said of Glasgow, "Brimming with style and culture, Scotland?s biggest city is a revelation." says it all doesn't it! :p
