What is bromide?

 

Well speaking purely from a personal point of view, English girls love American guys... the accent is just so sexy

Bromide is a sedative in the form of sodium or potassium bromide. It used to alledgedly be used in old folks homes to cool their ardour

Bromide was a chemical added to water for service men during the second world war to blunt their sex drive. It acted like a sedative I believe.

Of course, I could be totally wrong, but that's what I remember from school!

Ah! The US used saltpeter, allegedly in the WWII troops food for the same reason. I don't know if it's true or not.

 

I could ask my male residents. a lot of them served in WWII.

Hmmm probably that we all speak like Cockneys... I can assure you I have never uttered the words "Knees ap muvva brahn" I have rather a posh English accent

 

Nope, for me it's the whole teeth thing. I go to my dentist every 6 months, and haven't had to have any work done for ten years now. Just cos we don't cap all our teeth for the perfect, unnatural smile, that shouldn't mean we all have rotten teeth.

It's not really popular I don't think but there was a craze of line dancing around a few years back though.

 

Do I drink enough to blend in at an English pub?

If not, are there classes I can take?

 

Possibly although you really don't want to take classes on how to drink in my town, much as it's a lovely place in the daytime... after 10PM only the brave or the police venture into the town centre.

Friday and Saturday nights the place turns into the gaza strip and blood runs in the gutters! Too many kids drinking too many cheap shots...

IF you came over I'd take you to some of the country pubs with real ale / proper beer and pub gardens!

 

Yeah, country pubs are the greatest. Unlike going out in Indy, going to city pubs/clubs in England these days is a good way to end up either maimed or dead.

 

wow. I had no idea! England certainly has changed since I lived there.

 

There is a really bad drunken lout culture in a lot of the cities these days, it's a real shame.

 

The only pub I will go to in the town is the local goth / biker pub because no chav is going to kick off in there in a hurry and they lock the doors after 10pm and you can only get in if someone will vouch for you or they know you!

It's a real shame, however I went to London a couple of years back and ended up at a club until 4am and I must say I was shocked that there was none of the violence going on that would happen if it were where I live. Everyone was just going about their business, getting food and taxis and it was a great atmosphere...

Then again they say crime in rural areas (where I live) is getting far worse than inner cities these days
