Well, not exactly. It's more like maybe, as in MAYBE. They're also saying it could be a previously unknown natural phenomenon.

 

I appreciate your skepticism, but eventually they're going to discover an exoplanet that's been dipped in chocolate and coated in a brightly colored hard candy shell, and what will you say then?

it's a taunt. They've let us know that they don't care whether we know they're there. They know that we know that they don't care. And they know that we know that we aren't technologically advanced enough to hide from them.

 

They might think we're well on our way to becoming a spacefaring civilization. After all, the Challenger will only blow up three years from now.

 

They must be quaking in their vast, solar-system spanning boots.
