No, my LOTR is split into the three books with the appendices at the end of the third book.

Even the one LOTR book is smaller than The Stand. My sister has it.

EDIT: Rach, havent read any Irvine Welsh. Dunno if I fancy them. Have you read Shaun Hutson? If yer looking for disturbingly graphic horror/murder/occult novels...his are some of the best.

I have the millenium edition of LOTR. 7 small hard back books with decent size print, woven and glued binding. Limited edition.

heh, one of my mates was reading that TTG. One of the highlights of my day was the daily 'filth update' on the train. :)

I'm gonna need some recommendations for me holiday.. I don't think I'll be able to keep the NJO's unread until then, so better have a backup plan... so it's either LOTR again, Battlefield Earth again or... what else?

    If we're giving out recommendations....

Socrate's Cafe by Christopher Phillips and Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom. Two of the best books I've read in awhile.

Cass, I know whatcha mean but Filth is defo the best Irvine Welsh if you're gonna read any.

    LOL @ Alpha

    THE WASP FACTORY!!!!

Sorry to shout - dang what a simply hilarious book - the brother's phone calls had me in absolute stitches...and the twist ...wicked

EDIT: Meant to say yup, Sean Hutson and if you like Sean Hutson have you tried Richard Layman (but not in the biblical sense)

A Song of Ice and Fire series by George R R Martin is really good.

The first one is called A Game of Thrones, followed by A Clash Of Kings, A Storm Of Swords and soon (well November) A Feast of Crows

This is an excellent series of books that I would highly recommend to anyone who likes a good fantasy novel.

The story is sweeping and strong, and doesn't have any of the slow, boring bits that annoyed me so much about LOTR. If I had to recommend one author at this moment, it would be this one.

    // Late and drunk

I'm currently read a very fne book about a young English man travelling on the trans siberian express on way home to Slough ( that's slough in essex not New Slough in America )

Now it may sound dull..but its actually very entertianing..espicaaly his choice of tappes on his walkman..

as for James Herbert..I read the Others by him ( not to be confused by the others with Nicole Kidman ) and that was a return to form by the old fella ( and he still looks sinsiter and rat like on the cover )....

Oh my remote access haas jjust dislabed me....
