Qui-Gon had received rather specific instructions from Noela about how the rest of his night was supposed to be spent. These mandates included going to bed early and not fidgeting with his hair, but mostly involved getting a solid eight hours of sleep before he could even think about getting up.

He had, of course, spent a token few minutes scowling and rearranging the short-cropped locks of his new haircut. It was not that he disliked the look, but it was the same style that he had worn just after being knighted and he wasn?t sure if it made him look younger or just too old for his hair. The entire look was only made worse by the fact that he could no longer hide well-earned wrinkles behind his beard.

Obi-Wan had fallen asleep on the sofa with a datapad on his chest by the time he returned, so he had nudged him awake and suggested quietly that he go to bed. Obi-Wan had blinked groggily at him as if he believed himself to be hallucinating, and then shrugged and shuffled off to bed.

Qui-Gon had followed just a few minutes later, after having dressed and prepared for bed. The alarm was set and the comm was set to a private frequency so that he would only be alerted if a friend came calling during a state of emergency.

The fact that his comm sounded some two hours later, therefore, was a matter of great concern. He groped blindly for it, not bothering to turn on the light, and thumbed it on.

    ?Jinn,? he grunted.

?Master Jinn,? a young voice responded, ?this is Diaurk Halun, the Gatekeeper.?

?Yes, Knight Halun,? he yawned. ?What is it??

?There is a Senator Noela Ovorp here,? Halun stated. ?Would you be willing to speak to her??

He didn?t have to even pause to consider, but replied the moment that the younger Knight had finished his sentence.

?I will meet her in the atrium,? he promised.

He reached into the Force as soon as the call was disconnected, but could feel no particular distress coming off of Noela. That did not mean much, of course, since she was fairly good at shielding her emotions. Either she was here for a less sinister reason than he thought or there was nothing to worry about.

He doubted that either was the case, so he dressed quickly in the Jedi equivalent of an ?off-duty uniform? Basically speaking, it was his tan sleep pants, an undertunic and one of the summer robes in his closet.

Noela was, thankfully, more fully clothed than the last time he?d seen her. Unsurprisingly, she had decided to make a good impression on the Gatekeeper, even at 0200. That meant that she was being ?informal? and wearing a dark-blue knee-length dress rather than Senatorial robes. She was also pacing from one end of the atrium to the other, obviously nervous about something. Even worse, she was muttering under her breath, which was Stage 2 of the Ovorp Agitation Protocols.

?Milady,? Qui-Gon greeted as he approached.

She stopped and tried out a smile on him. He returned it and extended a hand without bothering to ask what she was doing here. She looked immensely relieved by that discretion and nodded graciously to the Gatekeeper as she passed.

They were in the Temple proper, headed down the Grand East Corridor before he finally spoke. ?Where would you like to talk?? he asked. ?I?m sure no one would mind you coming to our quarters for something hot to drink.?

She shook her head. ?I don?t want to make a fool of myself in front of Obi-Wan,? she replied.

Qui-Gon doubted that she could ever pull off such a feat, but he didn?t argue. ?The refectory?? he suggested.

She pressed a hand gingerly against her abdomen. ?I think I?ve had enough to eat and drink tonight,? she said ruefully. ?My overly protective sisters wouldn?t let me drink anything that could make me lose control, but that meant they stuffed me to the gills with sugar instead. I?ll be lucky if I can fit into my dress tomorrow.?

Again, she was hiding behind a bit of hyperbole, but he indulgently grinned. ?Where, then??

    ?The gardens?? she requested.

He nodded. ?There are a f

Well that was very sweet :)

Since he has given up his hair, his beard and his sleep for this wedding perhaps he gets a vacation...oops. nope. He and Obi-Wan are off to save the galaxy again right after.

Aww, great as Liam is, moments like that make you sad that Qui-gon and Noela were kept apart.

THis is the second-to-last post. I had hoped to get all of this done today, but just couldn't get it done. Here are 6 pages anyway.
    *****
By prior arrangement, Obi-Wan was to take one of the Temple speeders to retrieve Carmyn and meet his Master at the hotel where the wedding was being held. It was a considerate plan, since Qui-Gon had to be there a good three hours before the rest of the guests and Obi-Wan would have found himself either fidgeting or trying to be unnecessarily 'helpful.'

Qui-Gon had already left by the time Obi-Wan's alarm sounded, so he showered for a longer amount of time than usual, took the time to make his hair lie relatively flat and dressed in his formal robes. He practically looked like a Jedi recruiting poster, of course, but the Council would expect no less of him. There were bound to be dozens of holoshills attempting to record this event and he had to appear to be the perfect Jedi Apprentice.

That is, of course, until he got onto the dance floor. He had spent some time trying to refine his dancing skills, but it seemed to have been to no avail. He was supposedly one of the finer students of the lightsaber of his age group, but somehow, classical music wreaked havoc on his coordination and depth perception.

That was not, however, something that he could think about just yet. Noela was getting married today and that was quite enough to handle without thinking about the aftermath of the ceremony.

The ceremony was scheduled to start at noon, but he managed to arrive at the Corellian Embassy by 1100. According to the plans, her parents were going to meet them at the ceremony itself, so the awkwardness of the retrieval was minimized.

Even better, Carmyn was dressed more formally for the occasion than she had been last night. Obi-Wan had become accustomed to her rather darkly casual fashion sense and last night's ripped black tunic and skin-tight red nerf-hide skirt had been nothing surprising.

Today, however, she was garbed in a floor-length strapless gown with laces up the front and back in silver. For the first time since he had met her, Carmyn's fuchsia hair was unbound and curled to midway down her back. She had tied matching silver ribbons to various locks, making him look and feel terribly drab by comparison.

As an Ambassador's daughter, however, she knew the right things to say and leaned over to hug him with a squeal of, "You look so dashing!"

He, being a male human teenager with hormones and midichlorians, turned the same color as her hair. "You look wonderful," he managed to say sincerely.

"This is going to be so much fun," she enthused as they set off through the morning traffic. "I can't remember the last time I actually had fun at a wedding."

"You go often, then?" he asked politely.

"Of course," Carmyn sighed with a roll of the eyes. "My parents insist that these sorts of things are character-building. You?"

"Only when a mission requires it or when a close friend is one of the guilty party," he said wryly.

She laughed easily. "That's a good way of looking at it," she complimented. "And you usually have to find an escort?"

"Not at all," Obi-Wan responded. "I usually end up dancing with anyone who asks while my Master keeps an eye on things."

Her hand found his, squeezing lightly in a way that was slightly too pleasant for comfort. "My sympathies," she said sincerely. "I'll try and monopolize you so that no one else can torture you."

He grinned. "I think that's something I can live with."
    *****
Qui-Gon had expected things to be hectic. Certainly, there were things that had to be pulled off at the last moment. There were details that had to be fine-tuned and over a dozen people that had to be managed.

He had never expected it to become a full-blown nightmare.

First of all, half the bridal party had arrived half-asleep since the sisters had tried to avoid sorrow by staying up half the night. The bride herself was trying valiantly to look alert and excited despite having gone on a midnight ex

Without further comment, he leaned in to kiss Noela?s cheek. A moment later, he performed one of the more difficult tasks of his life: he let go.

    That is touching :)

The confusion on the part of the priest is..... amusing. Particularily since he had no sense of humor!

Excellent second to last post, Ish. I liked the nervous energy of the wedding day. Qui-Gon's Father Goose attitude is warm. I also enjoyed in his run in with the Reverend and Liam's final arrival.

Without further comment, he leaned in to kiss Noela?s cheek. A moment later, he performed one of the more difficult tasks of his life: he let go.

It was also sweet and endearing to have both Noela and Qui-Gon nervous and how their relationship would change.

    Looking forward the conclusion.

He was not sure who had made the first move. He couldn?t remember whose idea it had been or if it had been by mutual agreement.

All Obi-Wan knew was that, by the time the priest began the ribbons ceremony, Carmyn?s fingers were wrapped around his. He wasn?t even certain whether he objected to it. He had no idea if it was behavior befitting a Jedi to hold hands with your date, who was also your Attachment, who was also an Ambassador?s daughter, who was sitting four feet away from said Ambassador, who was someone you didn?t Think of That Way.

Qui-Gon would have chided him for his behavior, or at least rolled his eyes, if he had been aware that his apprentice was on the verge of squirming over such a trivial matter. After all, this was a sacred celebration of life and the will of the Force and he was being selfish enough to wonder about such things as whether or not his palms were sweaty.

He restrained himself from doing something undiplomatic long enough to work out that this was permissible. After all, they were supposed to be charitable as Jedi and comforting someone in their hour of need certainly fell under that category. He even idly wondered if he could stay off the dance floor as another act of charity.

It was a wonderful ceremony, since Noela and Liam had opted for the more elaborate and traditional Alderaanian ceremony. Even more traditionally, the entire thing was in Taiald, which made it difficult to stay awake at some times. Since it would have been impolite to snore during the ceremony, Obi-Wan kept himself alert by trying to remember what the ceremony was saying.

It was easy enough to remember the basics. The priest bound the couple?s hands with various ribbons, each representing a different value.

White--twin virtues of purity and victory.

Purple is for royalty and nobility of soul.

Green is for life and joy.

    Blue for peace.

Carmyn let out an almost inaudible sigh, but he could not tell if it was because she understood something that he did not. Perhaps it was because she was in the kind of state of rapturous bliss that happened to females of all species the moment that they saw a happily-ever-after happening. Sometimes, he did not think he would ever understand her at all. Even more bewilderingly, her hand tightened to an almost crushing grip and he had to wonder what her intentions towards him were in the first place.

A moment later, her hand relaxed just a little and he determined to tell his mind to switch off and just enjoy the event. He might as well, since there were only about forty-five seconds remaining in the actual ceremony. The ribbons ceremony was finished, Liam had finished his vows and Noela was finally getting around to her bit.

"I swear to you my love, my loyalty, my life as I have done to cause of justice," she said, voice strong. "I take as my own your burdens. I take your pain and your wounds so love can heal. I take your love to strengthen mine."

He was not about to imitate Carmyn?s actions, but he certainly smiled. The Alderaanian vows were very similar to the binding ceremony between Master and Padawan. In many ways, both expressed similar kinds of commitments?they were not on the same level, not strictly speaking, but they were certainly for the same purpose. These were commitments to protection in all circumstances. That was the chief reason for his enjoyment of this event.

?...I now pronounce you man and wife.?

Liam murmured something that made Noela laugh and Qui-Gon roll his eyes. A moment later, the couple had sealed the contract with a kiss and Carmyn released his hand so they could stand and applaud.

    ?Lovely,? Carmyn said quietly.

?It was,? Obi-Wan agreed. ?I would have preferred to understand what was going on, but I appreciate any tendency towards traditionalism.?

    She nodded. ?As do I.?

He opened his mouth to comment on that, but self-preservation and a natural sense of diplomacy stopped him before he could do something stupid such as being honest.

?The good thing about this location,

    Happy sigh...so many nice things.

He restrained himself from doing something undiplomatic long enough to work out that this was permissible. After all, they were supposed to be charitable as Jedi and comforting someone in their hour of need certainly fell under that category. He even idly wondered if he could stay off the dance floor as another act of charity[face_laugh]

He opened his mouth to comment on that, but self-preservation and a natural sense of diplomacy stopped him before he could do something stupid such as being honest. [face_laugh] [face_laugh] Obi-Wan learned young.

It was true. For the three months that he had been assigned to her case, she had made such a request at least three times a day. By the end of the second day, he had begun to understand precisely why she had been receiving death threats.

?All right, then,? he said indulgently, ?Buxy.?

?Besides,? she said, bumping him with vicious enthusiasm with her oversized hip, ?if we?re going to be paramours for the evening, we?d better be on better terms than that.?

He had the distinct impression that she had heard that word once, never looked it up and simply thought it sounded exotic and seductive. At least, he hoped she didn?t mean it that way.

?Agreed,? he said politely. ?Shall we go in??

?Yes!? she chirruped. ?You?ve got to try one of these bubbly things! I?ve had three and they?re greeeeeeeeeeat for loosening up.?

She snapped her fingers repeatedly at one of the passing waiters and he stopped, looking repulsed and vaguely hopeful that she had intended the gesture for someone else.

    ?Two,? she ordered.

He passed them over from the tray and scurried away looking rather like Obi-Wan around a bare midriff.

I would put some more face-laughs, but need to leave some for others.

    This was great!

Wonderful conclusion, Ish. From the dancing to the minor angst with Qui-Noela, this was a fun and heartwarming fic to read. I just love the Obi-Wan/Camryn dynamic. Of course Qui-Gon is sufficiently stiff...no...wooden...loving, refined, and dignified with a hint of mischief. Yeah, that's it.

HOLY NEGLECTED READER REPLIES O' DOOM, BATMAN! Sorry and here we go!

Noelie--LOL, well, here's my rationale. WOmen lust after his hair. She might get protective. I definitely feel bad for anyone in the line of fire. She wants this whole thing to go right after all this time and that will make anyone something of a bridezilla, even a senator.

Araxie--Qui en flambe. Should be a dish...

    Noelie--LOL, well, yes, possibly!

Araxie--LOL, thanks! Glad you liked that...

Noelie--And now I know why, you naughty girl! ;) And yes, you should feel sorry for Qui-Gon!

    princess_of_naboo--LOL, exactly!

brodiew--Thanks, brodiew. :) I've never felt very good with my romantic comedy, so that's gratifying to hear. Glad you liek the delivery of hte humor there. I very much identify with Carmyn. I've had a few gigglable moments myself.

    Araxie--LOL, yes, poor Qui-Gon!

Valairy_Scot--Don't worry about that! Thanks! And glad it's right!

Noelie--LOL, thanks. I'll give him a vacation someday...

princess_of_naboo--Well, yes, but sometimes, it's best to have someone you don't have to marry to be sympathetic.

Noelie--Awww, thanks. And I love the priest in that scene.

    brodiew--Yay!

Araxie--LOL, yes, the poor priest. Liam is probably wondering what Qui-Gon told the priest about him or something. Glad you liked the last line.

justicejedi--LOL, thanks! Glad you found the portrayal of emotions to be appropriate.

Lilith Demodae--You I'm not even going to...yeah. You know my feelings on your cliffies.

Noelie--I'd like to see you try.

Valairy_Scot--LOL, that would have been awesome. "Now, my son, is this your first time?" "Taking part in a wedding? Of course not. I've done it a dozen times." *Thud* "Your Reverence?"

brodiew--Thanks! Yes, lots of nervous energy out there. LOL, Father Goose. I loved the runin with the Reverend. Glad you liked the nervousness on how things would change.

Veloz--Awww, thanks. LOL, you have to read the first story to understand the Blood-sucking Padawans from the Unknown Regions thingy.

    Noelie--LOL, exactly. Mwahaha

    ahaha

    ahahaha.

I won't. Because it's more fun to have imagination at work. LOL, glad you liked The Secret. *Smirk* wouldn't YOU like to know?

    princess_of_naboo--Yup. *giggle*

Valairy_Scot--LOL, good for happy sighs! LOL, I loved all those parts.

Araxie--I'm never going to tell. I know exactly what it is, but it's not for someone outside of my head to hear. Glad you liked Noela teaching Obi to dance. Obi/Carmyn is still my favorite. Yes, I'll get on that bunny.

Veloz--Thanks! LOL, poor Obi-Wan. Glad you enjoyed it.

brodiew--LOL, thanks. LOL, nice try trying to describe Qui. Obi/Carmyn is just so funny to me. Yes, lots of mischief.
