"Attack of the Clones" Is it a good title?

But I have to wonder, do we really need this thread open anymore for this forum? It causes no problems I know, but it's not really needed anymore right?

 

Yeah, i remember the big controversy when the first title came out. All sorts of allegations that the title will alienate the general audience, sounding horrible and chessy, George Lucas betraying his fans and whatnot.

It was fine for me though. I thought it sounded kind of cool. The clones did "attack" per se; but from the title, many people assumed that the clones will attack our heroes or the Republic (which they will...eventually).

 

Hated it at first but now think it's kinda cool. I once read a reaction to it where someone said "think of JEJ saying it!" Mmmmm
now it sounds better!

Didn't like it then, find it ridicilous now.

The whole AOTC thing mirrored TPM so closely, it was spooky.

I really hope Ep3 has some more 'Flash Gordon' in the title. It's just fun to see the outraged reactions

 

Agreed DamonD, as AOTC "Attack of the Clones" seemed too much like "Attack of the Clowns"! Too much...

 

When I first hear of the Ep.II it sounded like old 50's sicfi movie "Attack of the 50 foot Woman." Over time the title has grown on me.

 

Well I think I can confidently predict that all the idiotic fanboys who bashed this title will do the same with EP3.

I think its pretty sad that the so-called fans can't accept a Star Wars title, besides until you see the movie, understand the story and realise the context of the title its no wonder people wont get it.

Ah but thats logical, and we dont want that

Ok thats a stupid question, you saw the film work it out.

And how does that title fit the overall film?

Think about whats happening to the Republic, think about how the Clones are an attack on what the Republic stands/stood for. Think about how the Clones will aid the transition of Republic to Empire.....now you get it.

It is probably the most inaccurate title yet.

Far from it, its incredibly accurate but very subtle and brilliant.

 

I don't understand why everyone hated it. I see nothing wrong with it.

I can't wait for the Ep3 title.

I wasn't a huge fan of it, but there were certainly much worser titles to choose from.

STAR WARS EPISODE II: THE CLONE WARS

even though it doesnt fit the theory that Kucas wanted an action for the second title to match TESP, I like it a ton better than ATOC.

No, I would have preferred something else.

 

I got used to Attack of the Clones. I do think it's the weakest title out of all of the movies, though. Thankfully it wasn't called "Jar Jar's Big Adventure."

 

I think it was misleading, because it hints to you that the clones attack the Republic, since the story is told from the Republic's view.

 

But the clones ARE an attack on the Republic. They attack what it stood for for 1000 years. Peace. And ultimately they do contribute to the downfall of the Republic. That's why the title works so well. I love it more now than I did April 6, 2001.

 

I think it makes sense. The Clone are not only attacking the Separatists, but their existence attacks the peace of the Republic. War was inevitable once they were discovered.


RE: The Clone Wars, I think Lucas actually had this title originally, and then ran into copyright issues...?

 

I like AOTC, but I def. do think it should have been called "The Clone Wars". It just makes more sense because the clones didn't attack really till the end of the movie.

However, the movie was based on the beginning of the Clone Wars beginning so it would have been a more fitting title. See Revenge of the Sith and The Phantom Menace both make sense, but not AOTC.

 

The Clone Wars is unoriginal, it is inaccurate as the Clone War doesn't start until the very end of the film and it does not have multiple levels of meaning like ALL the other SW titles.
