No, not the 're-envisaging' with George Cloony... the Stanislaw Lem original, or failing that, the Tarkovsky version...

Was the whole thing about living planets and unlikely gravity-fields deliberate? And if so, what does it mean?!

What are you talking about? That planet, Z--- something?

 

Solaris was about a living planet which was actually a giant brain that just wanted to interact with the scientists studying it. I read the novel about a year ago and can't remember the fine detail, but it was a really good read.

The point was that in Refugee, Zonama Sekot had managed to move into an 'impossible' orbit by somehow manipulating its own gravity-field... Solaris, similarly, was a 'living' planet in an 'impossible' orbit which it sustained by manipulating its own gravity-field, through the 'tides' of its 'ocean'...

It looked to me like a very deliberate rif...

Or just coinsidence. How was Solaris by the way? I've been meaning to pick up a copy...

 

Well I avoided the Spoiler, but the book was good. It really made you think. If you do get a copy, make sure to get the Lem version and not the movie version. Also, make sure it's translated and not in the original German, unless you speak German

Solaris Here's the version I have, but it looks like you may only be able to get the movie version. From the description it doesn't sound like they changed anything but the cover, but who knows.

Q: the version I have is the 'movie cover' version - but the same translation. And wasn't it Polish...?
