We certainly have a colourful version of the english language here, even though we don't see it used much as we used to given the overwhelming American influence. Words that are universal like "mate" "cobber", the unequivical "no worries" and "she'll be right" and not to mention the aversion to "yanks" and "poms".

How many of us use this on the JC, other than on Australia day? (remember PS's thread in JCC?) I occasionally use the word "mate", normally when I'm trying to get someone to quiet down so I can explain something to them (like an EU flamer :p).

Anyone else? BTW, I've noticed how a lot of Americans object to "yank" even though we still call them such and will continue to do so.

    Don't use Yank, use Seppo.

    Seppo?

Isn't that what the clones call the Confederacy soldiers in the EU?

It's the truncated version of the rhyming slang "septic tank", meaning yank.

Half of the Americans dont like being called Yanks, because the yankies were the north in the civil war, so the southern USA people dont like being called that.

I reckon we should have a 'talk like an Aussie day' like the talk like a pirate day, just to get up their noses. ;)

Absolutely! I can only inject so much into the American ether before I am seen as a Croc hunter wannabe. :p

I got about 7 PMs when I started that thread, asking me what the hell I was talking about. It was great

I don't use much of it. The occasional bit creeps in though. :p

Yes, I'm sure three people saying "mate" alot will make a JC national day. ;)

I don't think MS would go for it, but you could always ask them. ;)

I don't know about an entire day, but I wrote a post in the JC (then deleted it...it was completely illogical) that included the sentence "Look, mate, you've been shown to be deliberably stirring the pot here, just calm yourself down and actually read what people are saying to you"

And I immediately thought of this thread :p

I don't feel like selling an idea I want no part of. ;)

I hate, with a passion rivalled only by MalkieD2's, Talk Like a Pirate day and this would just piss me off as much.

So, no plugging this idea from this end. ;)

Ah, yes, people appending "mate" on to the end of every sentence and throwing in "put another shrimp on the barbie" every other post. I can't wait!

That would be me then.... [face_mischief]

Why do we want to force our lifestyle onto the seppos, only to have to explain everything to them... as far as theyre concerned, the world is still flat & nothing exists outside of the US borders..
Lets leave our dialect a mystery to them.
