Red hair, green eyes, fiery tempered, fairly strong/powerful...very common scifi cliche for female characters. It doesn't surprise me that it eventually wormed its way into Star Wars.

Don't let a score of books give you the impresion red hair women are spicy and hot, or amazonic natured. They're not, and you must look beyond such conception. It's no different to a browner.

Seriously, though, I'm surprised to admit how often women get relegated into those roles, unless they're canon character. Lucas tended to give his females high-ranking positions in his own writing.

 

I can't believe I'm saying this... but I kind of want to see an ugly Twi'lek female. We've only seen hot ones. Even Nolaa Tarkona was hot.

Zahn seems to be the only one truly in love with his redheaded character, going so far as to disregard every other authors work involving her.

I think part of the problem is that you can only use brown, blond or white SO MUCH before you start to run into redheads. I mean, we have plenty of descriptions of Gaeriel, Shada, Winter, Qwi Xux, Iella, Mirax, etc. and you realize that it's a fairly even split...
