    Basically what I was going to say. Are the default avatars the best thing that ever happened to anyone ever? No. Could they be worse? Yes. Can they be changed? Yes.

    And as someone said, creating a plain, transparent box isn't too hard for those who don't want an icon but don't like the default. You'll still have a box, but it'll be plainer.
