Elija Wood should crawl back to the toadstool that spawned him. He is even less deserving of the title "actor" than Jackson is of "Director". And just because Viggo Mortensen has facial hair, I don't think that she should be considered for Actor.

Peter Jackson is a good director, and if Kevin ******* Costner can get a directing Oscar for a movie that, 1) was not so spectacular and 2) competed against Scorcese and Goodfellas, then Peter Jackson, who unjustly lost to Ron Howard (another actor turned director). If he loses this year, it will be to Eastwood. Mystic River is great, however if Eastwood wins, it'll be because he's Eastwood.

Elijah Wood is ok, and doesn't deserve a nom. Sean Astin will deserve a nod if his performance is as powerful as the book's Sam.

I still don't know why you don't like LOTR because its most impressive scenes are in CGI. I see you are a fan of the prequel trilogy, which has no spectacular moments and has even more CGI.

The comment you made about Viggo is crude and, IMO, idiotic. I'm sorry you're not used to seeing men people with long hair and beards, but it was pretty common in Middle Earth considering the lack of razors and hair scissors. Since Viggo may compete in supporting (like Astin and Wood), you should take your stupid insults elsewhere.

If that sounds like a rant, I wrote my post correctly. I'm sorry, but the majority disagrees with you. You are likely to get plenty of angry replies.

Dehrian edit: You need to * out the entire word, not just part of it.

Ultimate Fett, RotK =/= Drama. Please try watching the Oscars and Golden Globes, kthxbye.

I'd like to know what that means. Thanx.

By the way, I've watched the Oscars since Forrest Gump ran away with Best Picture in 1994 (huge injustice in my opinion, The Shawshank Redemption and Pulp Fiction were much better.) I was 6. I watched the Golden Globes for the first time in the year of Titanic.

Best actor: I wouldn't be surprised to see Tobey MacGuire up there. I personally hope for Hayden Christensen, because it will give a warmer reception for EPIII if he were to win.

Sorry, but Haden's role in his movies is very lacking, you can see it in the trailers, he sounds like a whiney kid. Tobey on the other hand, should get one for Seabiscuit.

Tobey is in the Supporting race. The odds are very much against him. Bridges is going for lead.

Hate to burst your bubble, but Seabiscuit won't get a Best Picture nom or win any major awards. Critics have hailed it, but they also said the book beats it by a mile. That also may be true with LOTR, but LOTR is better, and an Academy favorite.

Seabiscuit may get some acting noms (William H. Macy will get some sort of nom for something) and a screenplay nom. It won't win any of those. Seabiscuit has its best chance in one of the artistic categories.

Also note: The best film of the year usually doesn't get the award. There hasn't been a deserving Best Picture winner since Schindler's List

That's up to each person to decide.

Opinion is not fact. That goes for everyone here.

We all have favorite movies that we feel got screwed by the Oscars while other movies we didn't like won big. It happens. That doesn't make it right or wrong. It just makes it frustrating because you don't get a vote.

Just a question...didnt the Oscars Academy say that no sequel will ever win best pic? I thought I heard that.

Regardless, I dont think LOTR will or should win best pic. But I do think Peter Jackson deserves the best director award.

Aside from technical awards, LOTR only other Oscar may go to PJ. Best pic...i dont think so.

That would be incorrect. Godfather Part II won Best Picture in 1974. It actually won twice as many Oscars as Part I.

No sequel has ever won Best Picture, though, when its predecessor did not. If ROTK does, it will become the first.

    My revised picks:

    Best Picture:
    Cold Mountain
    The Last Samurai
Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
    Mystic River
    Seabiscuit

    Best Actor:
    Jeff Bridges - Seabiscuit
Russell Crowe - Master And Commander
Johnny Depp - Pirates of the Caribbean
    Robert Duvall - Open Range
    Sean Penn - Mystic River

    Best Actress:
Jennifer Connelly - House of Sand and Fog
Diane Keaton - Something's Gotta Give
    Nicole Kidman - Cold Mountain

    Best Supporting Actor:
Paul Bettany - Master And Commander
Viggo Mortensen - Return of the King
Ken Watanabe - The Last Samurai

    Best Supporting Actress:
Scarlett Johansson - Lost in Translation
    Natalie Portman - Cold Mountain
    Renée Zellweger - Cold Mountain
