It is most interesting how the stories in the starwars mythology develop in a backwards manner.

The original trilogies were followed by the prequel movies.

We got lots of tales about ancient Sith, and a whole history created for the Old Republic (A history continuously being created by games, books, and comics.)

Also, there?s the story of Boba Fett:

First we got the creation of Boba Fett (and further tales of how he escaped the Sarlacc and more adventures).

Then we were introduced to young Boba and his father.

Then we got lots of Expanded Universe material about Jango, and his adventures as a kid.

This led to the mandaorian warriors (I think that these were already present before Jango, but their stories definitely increased and got enhanced after Jango?s character was created)

As a child, Jango was orphaned on Concord Dawn when his family, farmers by trade, were murdered in a civil war among the factions of the Mandalorian Shocktroopers. Vizsla captured Jango and forced his parents to tell what they knew of Jaster Mereel, but the Fetts refused. Jango fled as Vizsla and his cronies executed his family. Jango himself was saved by Jaster Mereel and later trained by the Mandalorians, debts which he carried for the rest of his life. Jango became one of the noted Mandalorian Shocktroopers, and it was believed that he was the only survivor of that military group.

This led to tales taking place further back in the saga, to the grand scale of the Mandalorian wars.

this was the name used by historians to describe series of battles waged by the Old Republic against the ancient Mandalorians, some thirty-five years after the onset of the Great Sith War. After the Mandalore himself agreed to fight alongside the Sith, the Old Republic decided that they needed to confront them as an enemy. Great effort was expended in defeating the Mandalorians, thereby eliminating the physical threat of the Great Sith War. The Republic could then focus its efforts on assisting the Jedi in the more mystical aspects of the war. (from Knights of the Old Republic)
