Someone should start a band called "Of The". It'd fit right in with "The Who", "The The", "The Them", and "Squirrel Nut Zippers". ;)

Someone just asked me an amazing question: would I rather be stuck on a desert island with the SW prequels or Matrix sequels.

Barring the obvious "third option: pistol with one bullet", I actually, to my own great surprise, said the Matrix sequels.

I absolutely loathe the Matrix sequels, but you know what? At least they have some style to balance out the lack of sense or substance.

Also, I can kind of console myself with the notion that they made them too quickly, rushing them out in only three years or so. Whereas Lucas had 30, so there's really just no excuse at all.

    Wow.
I found myself agreeing to that, a little. I think I'd pick Star Wars though, just because I'd find myself missing the lightsabers and other various sci-fi elements. I'm sure I've watched the prequels a lot more than I have the Matrices.

They just mean more to me, overall.

Wouldn't be a fair question in my case: I like the prequels, but I was lukewarm about the first Matrix movie, actively HATED the second one, and didn't bother with the third.

So the choice is more or less made by default.

I would have to go with the Matrix sequels, for psychological reasons. The Star Wars Prequel Trilogy ends on such a down note, it would hard to maintain my morale. At least with the Matrix, there's a sense of hope, a new beginning at the end.

Yes, I know that Episode III shows Luke, Owen & Beru on Tatooine, watching the Binary Sunset, but the overall theme is such gloom and doom, I'd probably want to kill myself after a while.

At least with the Matrix, I could enjoy slowly but steadily slipping into insanity without too much difficulty.

See, this is where I have to disagree. Granted, I only saw two of the Matrix movies, but they were pretty gloomy the whole way through. The color was washed out, the world it was set is was dark and gritty, there's nothing fun about it at all.
Granted, yes, the PT ends on a dark note, but it's still like a cartoon show: colorful, full of largely bloodless combat, archetypic heroic characters...much more inspiring to me.

To tell you the truth, I'd randomly pick and then toss whatever I picked into the water. I don't think I could survive One Day with either trilogy. As good as both are... only the insane can watch them over and over and over... and over.

I'd choose none. I'd stand in the water for three days until the seacreatures become used to me, catch me'self some seaturtles and-- you know the rest.

No, but in all seriouslyness; I pick the Star Wars prequels.

The Matrix sequels, clearly. There's at least an attempt at something deeper there, and if you're marooned with nothing else to do, dumb fireworks and simple plot are really going to start to grate. Plus I preferred the dumb fireworks of the Matrix sequels.

However, in all honesty, I'd get extremely bored with my infinitely-powered DVD player and start to try and train the Pacific Coconut Crabs to dance.

"The Matrix" may be the single most overrated film of its century.

I got "Reloaded" on VHS as a well-meant gift from relatives. The clone fight was neat. The rest of it, blech.

I think I can safely spend my life not seeing "Revolutions", ever.

    Rick McCallum loves you!

If only for the practical reasons that I'd have an extra disc to make tools out of, I'd choose the SW prequels.

    Re: The last few pages

So this means that we've gotten all of the politics and religion talk out of the way for future social threads, right? [face_idea]

In other news, I lol'd at this:

According to the Office performance benchmarks, Windows XP SP3 is also considerably faster than Vista SP1. "None of this bodes well for Vista, which is now more than two times slower than the most current builds of its older sibling," said Barth.

In more important news, I've got a project I've been working on for a while (and will continue to do so) here:

    <a href="http://www.memorr.com/"><img src="http://img127.imageshack.us/img127/9761/memorrteasevq7.png" border="0"></a>

It takes less than 2 minutes to run through so if you have a sec I'd love the feedback. :D

Another option: Heroes Season One or Firefly?

    I'd really have to think about this one . . . . hmmm. [face_thinking]

I'd go with Firefly, just because it's consistently funnier.

Heroes. Firefly never struck me in the way it struck a lot of other people. I tried to find a reason to watch through it again, but decided instead to watch Peep Show. And I was happy because of that decision.

Haven't seen Heroes yet (getting the first season out of the library, but there's a bit of a backlog on the reserve list), but Firefly rules. Not a huge fan of Serenity, but the show was awesome, and regrettably killed before its time.

I can't really deem that a "sin," but it's darn close.

I agree with that. How many crap shows have come and gone since then? How many crap shows have been kept on the air, effectively lowering the collective intelligence of the American populace?

I'm personally going to wait for Season 3 to knock it out of the park before I start demanding that everyone I know get into the series.

I don't own a TV and I don't have cable; whaddaya want from me? [face_peace]

I've got a hold in for the first season at the library. 'Course, I've been told I might not like it because I'm not a huge fan of this trend in TV and movies thee days to treat fantastic scenarios with absolute dead-pan seriousness. For the same reason that I prefer oBSG to nBSG, I will probably prefer, say, Superman II and Superman Returns to Heroes...
...but I'm gonna give it an honest shot. Besides, it has Clea Duvall in it, and she's just, well...you know...lickable. [face_love]

Heck, that's not even my point, really; Firefly was awesome in its own right, no comparison necessary, and should have been kept on the air. Sod the rest of TV; that doesn't even matter.

The death of Firefly has to be the worst television tragedy that I can think of. I loved that show. Loved the movie too. Seriously, sometimes I get sad just thinking about it. :_|

I also loved Matrix 3. But not as a logical conclusion to the events of the first one; as an action movie in its own right.
