Nate, the more you talk, the more I consider holding off and just buying HD.
I'm never gonna get to make this movie tho, if I do that. I'll be out of college by the time I have cash for one of those.

    Cripes.
    Dilemma.
EDIT: Although, looking at the Sony HDR-HC1 or HDR-HC3, I wouldn't be paying that much more for it than a GL-2. That could be feasable.
What do you guys think of these?

Heh, we have chickens at our place. Not nearly that many of course, but I still laughed out loud several times watching it. [face_laugh]

Plus...I was so sure I just saw Fig. (No, not in the chicken factory.) I'm here at work and walked past the front desk - there was a guy standing there with his back to the windows that had reddish hair and the type of shirts I've seen Fig wear in pictures/videos before. I had to stop and do a double-take and remind myself "no, wait, he's in Florida" before I realized there was no way it was him. :p

Now that's creepy, I think the fanfilms are having some subliminal effects on our brains...

    ...or maybe it's just Fig.

So i was thinking about doing one of those small, interactive 'look all around someone's room' things, where you click left/right up/down and look around a room from a website (not a live uplink obviously). While i've got some idea on how to go about it, i'm pretty low on any specifics, but i've seen it done a fair few times, and just wondered if anyone knew better than i, or had any links to information on it. I tried ghooghel but since i don't really know what this is technically called, i didn't have much luck. Any help is appreciated.

That's quicktime VR which can be done with 3ds Max. Basically you have to take 6 pictures, up/down/left/right/front/back and then put them together (you can use some special programs to do this or try some cube mapping) then you can just use the Panorama exporter to render a panorama and then save as a quicktime VR.

I would actually recommend RealViz Stitcher. Easy to use, and renders out the nifty interactive QTVR's with ease. Go to Realviz.com and check out the demo.

    EDIT: I can't read.

The HC1 is a great little cam. I love mine. Outperforms the Gl-2 in pretty much everything with the exception of low light, and I don't remember if the Gl-2 has built in xlr or not. Either way I probably wouldn't reccomend picking up the HC3 as I don't believe it has an external mic input at all.

Being left-handed, I got a lot of people noticing and making a big deal out it from time to time. I like to do the same thing to right-handed folks sometimes. (*gasp* "You're right-handed! Wow...I had no idea!")

    Well, good. Neither am I.

Oh, more HL2 mod goodness: Iron Grip.

I've not played it yet, but it looks badass--steampunk Eastern European-ish aesthetic, with two-sided conflicts. On on side is a single person using an RTS kind of interface controlling a team of AI, and on the other side is a small group of people in FPS interfaces trying to hold them off and achieve their goals. Coool.

The thing that got me interested in the GL-2 was it's function in low-light. I'm sure I can figure out how to light night scenes so this won't be problematic.
And, with GL-2s priced at $2000-2,500, whereas the sites giving the HC1 reviews were stating $1,500, this seems like the way to go. I'm not sure if my current system could stand up to HD, but my next step after camera is building a new computer. Hmmm.
The external mic input isn't really a problem, so long as it has it's own mic. That's where minidiscs and clappers come in handy.
    Well, this could work.
    ::scratches chin thoughtfully::

    It's all about the resolution.
