[BANNER] New Main Banner (We have a winner... but you already knew that...)

It's that time of the year again. We're looking for a new main banner. The current main banner is themed ?villains of the OT,? the preview banner was ?heroes of the Saga.? This time around, we?re giving you a choice of themes. After some discussion, the Mod Squad came up with the following choices: Lightsabers or the EU. So, we?re looking for a lightsaber themed banner or a EU themed banner (or you could do both if you really want).

You can start working on the banner any time. You have until October 1st to have your banner ready. On October 1st the contest will close and banners will be judged. We?re probably going to go with only one banner, but in the next few weeks I?ll post a poll here in Communications asking for opinions on whether or not we should switch between two banners on a weekly basis.

Please remember to adhere to one of the two themes: lightsabers or the EU. Yes, ?lightsabers? can be taken to mean lightsaber duels.

For images related to the EU, I suggest the art galleries of Wizards of the (for example?), Dark Horse comics, the Clone Wars cartoons, and various novel covers over the years. For images of lightsabers and lightsaber duels, I suggest the films.

This should be cool. I liked the last one by Grimby but i definately feel it's time for a change.

If it's going to be the main banner for all the forums it shouldn't be EU, it should be something ALL users can relate to.

I would vote for something PT related, seeing as how this banner might be up until ROTS come sout, or at least until the teaser and the expected flood of new users.

I can't relate to ROTJ or TPM. There are a lot of people who can't relate to the PT. Does that mean that we shouldn't have banners for them? An EU banner just means that the source of the images are from EU products - i.e. drawn images rather than photos.

It includes (but is not limited to) Clone Wars cartoons, the Ewok and droids television, the Holiday Special, the Marvel and Dark Horse comics, the various computer, console and board games, novel covers, interior illustrations, RPG sourcebooks, magazine articles, and Holonet News. If it has Star Wars on the cover and it?s not one of the movies, it?s EU.

Just because "EU sucks" doesn't mean it has no pretty images. That's all a banner is: A bunch of photoshopped images. It doesn't "say" anything.


My vote for an EU banner says something, though

 

Raven, I'm all for drawn images on the main banner, if it's say, Luke, Leia and Han, or Padme and Obi-Wan.

I think putting Talon Karrde or Mara Jade up there will just confuse the newbies.

 

Ok,I desided to go with the Lightsaber theme.Here's my working design. (I need to touch up some things,but this should give you the general idea.)

Honestly, having an EU banner could possibly induce some serious old flame wars no one wants. I personally am kind of apathetic towards the EU, but given the choice, would choose the films by a mile. And I think lightsabres are something that are intrinsicly Star Wars in everyone's mind. Whatever side you're on, you have to admit from past evidence that the EU is not.
