I'm giving this Shakespeare challenge a whirl. Please note that this is my interpretation of the quote. So it's pretty much out there. So here goes.

    Title: No More Room
    Author: Lola 64
    Characters: Leia, Winter, Tycho
    Genre: Angst
    Timeframe: Post TUF
Summary: What happens when one can?t take anymore.

"When sorrows come, they come not as single spies, but in batallions." ~Hamlet

The former Chief of State of the New Republic and leader of the Rebellion against the Empire shouted in frustration because her transportation could not get through the blockade in the center of the Capitol on Mon Calamari.

How could they not let her through? Did they not know that it was an emergency? That she was needed?

Why would they care? These people wouldn?t even know the woman lying in that medical bed, let alone realize who she was to Leia Organa Solo.

Since she was a child the woman, her friend, was always at her side. So poised, so regal, she had often been mistaken for the Princess of Alderaan. Sometimes she would even play the part to give Leia time away to continue her work for freedom from the Emperor?s tyranny.

And then when it was over she became nursemaid, caregiver, to Leia?s children, having to keep in seclusion with them for their safety for long periods of time.

It all seemed so long ago, yet like it was just yesterday. But it couldn?t have been yesterday because that?s the day she was summoned.

Leia was relaxing with her husband aboard the Falcon on Ossus. They had just dropped off supplies needed for the rebuilding of the Jedi Academy. They were taking it easy after the war, they had to recoup. Her husband was in the middle of reminiscing when he saw Leia?s face drop. She told him Luke was coming, to deliver bad news.

Jaina. Her daughter was the person that came to her mind. She?d been sent out to defeat some Vong stragglers causing problems. Jaina had been hurt. Leia could tell she wasn?t dead. She would have felt it like she felt her son Anakin die.

So when Luke arrived she was ready for it, or so she thought. It was someone, something she would have never expected.

Her friend, the closest thing she had to a sister, Winter Celchu, had been taken to a medical facility on Mon Calamari where she had been staying since the death of Admiral Akbar. Tycho, Winter?s husband, had sent word that Leia was to come immediately. Of course she went, in faster time than Han made in the Kessel run.

Han stayed behind with the ship, to deal with the landing authorities. Leia grabbed a hovertaxi and went on ahead. And she was still in it, for the last hour, waiting to get into downtown.

The vehicle finally came to the blockade where she jumped out and demanded an explanation for the delay. One would have to have been born yesterday not to recognize Leia Solo. She was instantly allowed through, a security officer leading the way to her destination.

The medical personnel knew she was to arrive and escorted her right away to the ward on the third level. It wasn?t until the doors of the turbolift opened that Leia realized where she was taken, the psychiatric ward.

A tall blonde haired man was waiting for her just outside the lift. His face was worn with worry. Leia thought he had aged twenty years since she?d seen him last, just two months earlier.

?Thank you for coming Leia.? He wrapped her in a hug, the tears falling down his face to land on top of her head.

    ?How is she Tycho??

    ?I?m afraid it?s not good.?

Leia was led to a room. There was a glass on the outside wall that allowed the two to look in. Her friend?s husband caught her as her legs gave in. She could not believe the sight before her.

The room was fairly empty. It had a small dresser next to the bed. The occupant of the room however was not lying in the bed like someone who was ill would. This patient sat huddled in the floor, rocking back and forth, her fingers playing with her white long hair as strange sounds came from her lips.

    Tycho

Lola,:_|I have always loved Winter and worried for her... this is so... tragic. Please help her! Maybe Kyp can come to the rescue with his mind powers and remove a few "bad" memories? Bet THAT would put Tycho and Wedge in an uproar![face_thinking]

It's kind of scary you knew exactly where I was going.

And what if when she wakes up she remembers nothing? Nothing that happened in the last 45 years.

*looks around room and sighes* Now who's letting loose all these bunnies? Thanks a lot!:_|

Actually, I complete faith in our beloved Kyp... what worries me is what will happen when she doesn't remember the memories that made her who she is? What domino effect will that start? And how many times do I have to tell you that great minds think alike?
