ST Based on what you think you know, where does Episode VII rank?

I wish you really could forget your obsession with a trio of films you don't like. Also, comedy isn't your thing.

 

Original Saga is 1-6. Which films don't I like? What comedy? You're confusing,

 

Truth. And the best way to let it die down is to not comment on it. The more people comment on it, the longer it goes on.

 

My projected pros and cons of TFA:



Pros: top notch FX, decent acting, fantastic villain, magnetic leads (Finn, Rey)

Cons: distracting/overt nostalgia and repetition of OT tropes


My guess is this will end up being #4 among Star Wars films...

2. Hope
3. Force
4. Sith
5. Jedi
6. Menace
7. Clones

 

Ford was weak as hell in Jedi. But Hamill has always and will always be Luke. I have never in my life looked at him and not thought of Luke Skywalker.

 

There's something approaching a consensus (I think) regarding the Star Wars films. Not everybody agrees, but I think it shakes out something like this:

Tier 1: ANH & TESB
Tier 2: ROTS & ROTJ
Tier 3: TPM & AOTC

Like I said, not everybody will agree, but that seems to me how it usually shakes out -- people prefer one or the other within a given tier, but they fall into three tiers more or less along those lines.

So, for me the interesting questions is, what tier will TFA wind up in? It might be hard to tell initially, but from everything we've seen so far, it seems a lock for a tier 2. Whether it makes it into tier 1 is very much an open question, IMO. Its ranking might change over time, too -- it seems to me that ROTS has risen in most people's estimation while ROTJ has fallen somewhat.

YMMV, and this is only my opinion. I respect yours if you disagree!!

It will create a new tier of its own!

Don't Agree with grouping AOTC and TPM in the same group.

T1- TESB, ANH
T2- ROTS, ROTJ, AOTC (if you fast forward the romance scenes its actually pretty good... Coruscant chase, Kamino, Jango V Obi Wan in space, Arena battle, final battle were all cool)
T3- TPM, Ewok movies

In my scale I think TFA will easily get into T1, the question is where in T1 where it fall, will T1 be TFA-ESB-ANH? ESB-TFA-ANH? ESB-ANH-TFA?

I fear TPM may get some company in T3 once Disney starts cranking out spinoffs...

 

Well If we are making tiers and projecting TFA..

Tier 1: TESB, ANH, TFA

Tier 2: ROTJ, ROTS

Tier 3: TPM

Tier 4: AOTC

 

Can't we just say Sith, Clones, and Menace are all tied for worst???

 

Why does this thread even exist? Ranking a movie we havent even seen yet as to where it may fall in the saga, based off trailers?
Seems utterly pointless to me aswell as other threads popping up recently, how you can make a judgement on something you havent even seen seems a bit strange to me.

 

YOU can say whatever you want and rank the movies accordingly.That doesn't make it a fact. Sith ranks high on my list. Probably my favorite to watch of the entire saga.
If TFA is better than TPM/AOTC/ROTJ (and all three of those are good movies IMO) I'll be a happy fan

Based off what I've seen, I think my ranking will look like this
ROTJ
ESB
TFA
ANH
ROTS
TPM
AOTC

 

In the top 3.....

 

For me, there is a difference between highest quality and favorite/most enjoyable. I can't rank it on either scale until I have actually seen it, though I am optimistic.

I won't post my ranking of the existing films, because that seems like something for another thread on another board.

Sadly, this party is far from over. December 19th will bring a whole new era of teeth gnashing.

To keep from more derailment, what I have seen so far has me optimistic about TFA. I am hoping for top 3, but am aware some things can go quite wrong.
