ST Based on what you think you know, where does Episode VII rank?

As far as ranking – for me it could go either way: either there will be a whole bunch of continuity missteps, and it will completely suck, or it will be the best Star Wars episode I have ever seen… At this point it has the potential for both.

 

Man, I couldn't even begin to fathom. On one hand, I think a fresh new take on Star Wars could possibly be really great...oooorrr, it treads so much old ground and is so self referential, and returning cast so unbelievable that it sucks. No idea lol.

 

For me, those Star Wars movies which rank 2nd/3rd/4th are so close that 5th place wouldn't be that bad.

Rate a movie that is still filming when all that is know is the main cast and a few sets and props?

I'm pretty astonished that 'worst' currently garners the most votes. Is this based on baseless rumours? So can I assume that at least twelve people think that the worst rumours (which have zero credibility) are actually true, or do folks actually think this will be the worst yet, rumours aside?

Aside from that we're going to have to wait until we get a bit of information before we can say anything. But I think (or hope?) it'll be better than the prequels and at least has the potential to be on the same level as the earlier films. If it can top ESB I'll eat my hat.

You can see a movie for the first time once. The OT films are to us now classics, the main impressions are forged the first time we saw them. Most of us were still young and in our innocence when those impressions were forged. So really it will be the first time in over thirty years that we have seen a fresh Star Wars movie with no expectations to fill. If Episode VII can forge the same impressions for me the same in way the OT films did I will be personally gratified.

 

I'd love for VII to help VIII get the top spot, like IV did for V.

I might change it to 3rd best (ESB, ANH, TFA). It'll be hard to top ANH.

 

I've said it on one of my other shows (not Full of Sith, but I'm sure it'll come up sooner rather than later)

But the worst case scenario for this movie - if JJ Abrams makes the worst film in his directorial career, if it's on the level of or even below Super 8, it'll still be, automatically, the third best Star Wars movie ever made.

I don't even need to know the story as much as I do, or have seen any set photographs to say that either. That's the basement. 3rd best. You can look at his filmography, the way he tells stories, the performances he gets out of his actors, the look of his films, and the chances he's going to turn out something that's better acted and better shot than Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Sith and Return of the Jedi is pretty good. Great, even.

What's funny is that if he turns in something on the level of Star Trek 09, which is probably the most fun thing he's ever done - he'll STILL probably slot in as the third best Star Wars movie ever made.

 

I think third best sounds right. It's impossible to recreate the originality of ANH, and it's likely impossible to reattain the iconic status of ESB. But third place seems doable.

 

It can be a very good SW movie, but also a bad one (regarding story plot/characters). This depends on which rumours turn out to be true and which turn out to be false.

 

I can't believe such a high vote for the worst... I find it almost impossible it fall below Episode 1, just seeing the big 3 back again would be enough to surpass it.

 

Realistically, it'll fall between the originals and the prequels.

 

agreed. it has a decent shot at being an average big budget, effects-driven movie. that would put it somewhere between return of the jedi and revenge of the sith.

Way too early to tell, but I will speculate anyway. I anticipate it being better than all of the PT, while falling short of ANH and ESB and maybe coming close to ROTJ.

 

It'll be the best movie ever made because despite the hype, despite the rumors, it'll be the first major motion picture performed entirely with sock puppets.

1. TPM
2. ESB
3. ROTS
4. ROTJ
5. TFA
6. AOTC
7. ANH

and I have really high hopes for Episode VIII
