?Fear is a way of life in Gotham City. We lock our doors and windows at night, and sleep with a weapon beneath our pillows. We carry a knife or a gun in our pockets for self defense. We can?t walk down the street in broad daylight without watching our backs. In times like these, there?s only one thing that we can hold on to and depend on. Hope.?

Gotham City. From the outside, it seems like a beautiful place, a bustling city with a myriad of opportunities. But from the inside, well, it?s an entirely different story.

Over the years, Gotham has become a city full of crime and death, making it a notorious home for villains and vigilantes alike. Criminals, crooked politicians, corrupt police officers, and more can be found with ease in the depths of the city. But amongst all the calamity and evil stands one man, unwavering in his attempts to rid Gotham of its filth, one man feared by all criminals. Batman.

Recently, a plot was carried out that all but destroyed Arkham Asylum, and released the psychotic and insane prisoners within the facility onto Gotham. Even more fear has struck the hearts of Gotham?s citizens, and some have even lost what was left of their faith in the Caped Crusader.

Now, the fate of Gotham is in your hands.

Hello, and welcome to Batman: Legend of the Dark Knight. This is a Batman, somewhat Alternate Universe, RPG. This means that the timeline of the game is not necessarily consistent with the Batman comics, meaning that, for example, Nightwing can already be an established character before Harvey Dent becomes Two-Face.

Also, when choosing a character, you can either have them already developed or in the beginning stages of the climactic stage of their life. For example, if you choose to play Two-Face, you can start out in the game either as the district attorney Harvey Dent before he is scarred, or as the already scarred Two-Face. Again, the timeline in this game does not have to be consistent with the comics.

As for heroes and villains with multiple alter egos throughout the comics, such as Robin and Clayface, you can choose to play as any one of the alter egos you wish. If you wish to play as Robin, you can have him be Tim Drake or Dick Grayson. However, if you choose the latter, then Nightwing is no longer available until you progress to that point in the game, if you wish to do so.

    Real Name: Wilma Jones
    Alias: Killer Croc, Croc
    Gender: Female
Appearance: Scaly gray-green skin, red reptilian eyes, a lithe muscular build accompanied by a long scaly tail, sharp reptilian teeth and claws. Frequently wears a pair of ripped daisy duke shorts and a ripped white tank top that reveals the top and bottom of her bust-line. She is unusually beautiful despite her physical outlook
    Allegiance: Evil
Personality: Wilma is criminally insane. Nowhere on par with the likes of the Joker, her animalistic nature underscores her frequent criminal plans and is apparent when she is fighting or performing a heist or crime. Only more recently, her personality has drifted towards her more primal urges.
Bio: Wilma Jones was born with a medical condition that caused her to grow progressively more like a crocodile. The disease the Killer Croc is afflicted with seems to be some form of regressive atavism, meaning she has inherited some of the traits of ancestral species of the human race. Her skin has hardened to the point where it is invulnerable to most forms of abrasion and even low caliber weapons fired from a distance. She possess super strength, able to rip a large bank vault door right off its hinges with ease. She has superhuman regenerative powers, able to heal injuries such as the broken limbs and spine she received from Bane.

Over time the primal reptilian part of her brain gains more control of her psyche. She possess super reflexes and speed. Croc also possess the superior senses and underwater capabilities of her namesake.

Croc has some experience at street fighting and wrestling, but she is not as proficient as Batman or Nightwing. She is a high school dropout, but has proven to be moderately capable of organizing thugs in small-time racketeering operations. She is usually hired by other villains as either muscle or a hitman, as she is at least intelligent enough to follow instructions.

She spent the next ten years homeless until she became Barbra Gordon's ward and agent in 'No Man's Land' Gotham. Eventually, after saving Commissioner Gordon's life, she became Batgirl with the approval of both Batman and Oracle.

He joined the Suicide Squad yet left around the time that his son was murdered and raped by a child predator. Lawton took vengeance on the man and began to feel that he had nothing left to live for. He wished to die in a spectacular fashion, yet had no will to commit suicide.

Recently, he's returned to Gotham after several events. First, he discovered that he had a daughter living in Star City. Using his skills, he thinned the lowlife population and convinced Green Arrow to patrol it more carefully. This having been accomplished, and feeling his daughter was safe, he was coerced into joining a group of supervillains called the Secret Six. He's still a member of the team, but has decided to pursue mercenary and assassin work in Gotham once again.

Personality: Jonathan Crane is slightly insane in that he loves to instill fear into his victims. He is a very smart guy.
Bio: Jonathan Crane was a professor of psychology at Gotham University; he was fired after an experiment. His specialization in psychology was fear, something he found interesting as a child. As a student in high school, he caused the death of a student and paralyzed another student, thus beginning his interest in the fear of mind.

After being fired from his job, Crane killed those responsible for his release. From then on, he took on the alias of Scarecrow, choosing an actual scarecrow costume as his attire; this proved to be perfect for his desires, as his costume often brought fear to those he met.

After a few years of murders, Scarecrow eventually became a target of Batmans. He was soon caught and confined within Arkham Asylum.

Over the years, Crane had implemented different sorts of mechanisms into his costume, including many different sorts of toxins that cause his victims to hallucinate, bringing their worst fears to life.

Personality: An angry and very disgruntled man, ready to do anything to get rid of his enemies.
Bio: Matt Hagen was a well-known movie actor. Badly disfigured in an automobile accident, he was rushed to the Gotham burn clinic. At the clinic Hagen was approached by Roland Daggett, a crooked businessman looking for test subjects for his "miracle product" RenuYou. Daggett promised the product could restore Hagen's features within minutes as compared to the years of plastic surgery he would have to endure. The only problem was that this drug was not FDA approved and highly addictive. In exchange for the product, Daggett forced Hagen to commit crimes. When Hagen finally refused to do any more of Daggett's dirty work, the supply of RenuYou was cut off. Crazed for the drug, Hagan broke into the RenuYou plant where he Daggett's henchmen poured gallons of the untested toxic chemical down Hagen's throat.

Instead of dying from an overdose, the chemical soaked every cell in Hagen's body, transforming him into a hideous man of clay. An enraged Hagen vowed to destroy Roland Daggett. What Hagen did not realize was that his new cellular structure allowed him to change his shape and appearance. He could form anything he wanted just by thinking it. As a living shapeshifter, he became the evil Clayface. As one of Batman's most bizarre and difficult criminals to handle, it takes great measures to apprehend Clayface. When caught, he was deemed insane and a special suit was designed to hold him in Arkham Asylum. Now that he has broken out of Arkham along with all the other criminals, he is back and ready or revenge.

She fought alongside Batman and Robin for many years until she was shot by the Joker, paralysing her and confining her to a wheelchair.

Bio: After a troubled childhood, Selina Kyle took to the streets and to selling her body. She was trained to defend herself by Ted Grant, better known as Wildcat, with whom she has since kept in contact, despite the fact that she is a known felon, committing a number of high-profile thefts in Gotham City and the rest of the world. She is not a killer, although the Gotham police are always wary of her - she is strictly a thief, but a most 'professional' one. A certain amount of sexual tension exists between her and Batman, though she would deny any attraction between them. Recently, Selina has become a sworn enemy of James Gordon, who managed to get her sent to jail for a short while. She was even suspected of shooting him, though she proved innocent of this crime.

Bio: A meek, quiet man, the Ventriloquist plans and executes his crimes through a dummy named Scarface, with the dress and persona of a 1920s gangster, complete with pinstripe suit, cigar, and Tommy gun.

Born into a powerful Mafia Family, Arnold Wesker developed multiple personality disorder after seeing his mother murdered by an assassin from a rival Family. Growing up, his only outlet was ventriloquism, which he mastered, forming an act with a dummy he named Scarface. Eventually, the Scarface dummy took on his repressed anger, becoming another personality Wesker was convinced was real. When Wesker turned to crime, he let the Scarface personality do the dirty work, including robbery and murder. Wesker is dominated by the Scarface personality, who barks orders at him and degrades him with verbal abuse, ironically calling him "Dummy." Wesker always submits with a timid "Yes, Mr. Scarface." Wesker was never able to enunciate the letter "b" in his act, and replaces them with the letter "g" instead. Therefore, Scarface will often address his foes as "Gatman and Rogin."

OOC: It is just regular Gotham. If you read the story overview, it states that Arkham Asylum has been attacked and all of the residents released. It says nowhere that it has become No Man's Land. Alright, folks, the wait is over. Here you are, the introduction to Batman: Legend of the Dark Knight.

    *raises glass*

Here's to success, ladies and gentlemen. Welcome...

    MASTERPRENN

The streets of Gotham City were unusually quiet for that time of night, though it came as no surprise to Batman. With the recent escape of all the Arkham Asylum residents, the majority of the city?s populace was afraid to leave their homes in fear that they may fall victim to a psychotic criminal.

The Dark Knight looked down upon the dimly lit streets from atop the 2nd National Bank. His cape billowed behind him in the soft wind, his eyes darting across the city, waiting for something to go wrong. But nothing did, nothing would. Predators had no prey on this night.

Just as Batman was getting ready to head home to the Batcave beneath Wayne Manor, something appeared in the sky that immediately caught his eye. The all too familiar signal that meant his presence was needed atop the Gotham Police headquarters.

The night had only just begun.

    Tag: Batman
BartSimpson-SithLord

Night had fallen on Gotham City, and the call of duty had risen for Deadshot. He had been given a target by Rupert Thorne, one of Gotham?s notorious crime bosses, offering a quarter of a million dollars for the dead body.

The target was police Commissioner James Gordon. According to Thorne, Gordon was one of the few pure hearted cops in the city, and needed to be dealt with in order for his crime ring to be able to flourish more easily.

Whether he cared about the reason or not, Deadshot had some killing to do. And with the Bat signal shining bright in the night sky, Commissioner Gordon?s location had been revealed. Atop Gotham Police headquarters. The only problem was that Batman would be there as well.

    Two birds with one stone.

    Tag: Deadshot
greyjedi125

The streets of Gotham were unusually isolated, and currently, there was nothing for the Red Hood to enforce. But word on the streets proclaimed that that was soon to change. According to several of the locals, a drug deal was going down at Hobb?s Bay, and a big one.

It was only half an hour before the scheduled meeting was to be made. It was the Red Hood?s decision on if the party was going to be crashed or not.

    Tag: Red Hood
darth_nemisis

It was an ironic night for the Scarecrow. He hadn?t used a single spray of his fear toxin, yet Gotham City was the most afraid as it had ever been. In fact, he was part of the reason, as he had just been freed from Arkham Asylum thanks to the mysterious attack that freed all of the residents of the facility.

And Carmine Falcone, a notorious crime boss in Gotham, wasted no time in contacting him. A meeting was set up for the two at Falcone?s hideout in south Gotham, something about a certain hero with the need to be eliminated.

A few hours of freedom, and Jonathan Crane was already back to work.

    Tag: Scarecrow
Penguinator-176

Mr. Freeze sat alone in the private chambers of his hideout, outfitted in his newly recharged refrigerated ice suit. He could hear many of his thugs laughing and joking in the outside room.

There was a knock at the door, and one of Freeze?s henchmen opened it. He was a young Hispanic man, with a heavy Latin accent.

?Boss?? he said. ?Boss, I have a message from Dr. Hugo Strange. He said he wants you to meet him at his home. Said it involved your?? the young man hesitated, ??your wife, boss.?

    Tag: Mr. Freeze

He threw the bags into a nearby trashcan, they pilled up almost to the top leaving no space for any regular human. RagDoll jumped into the trashcan and pulled the lid on, he fit snugly in the trash can and the cops ran right past him. He grabbed the bags and jumped into an alley and ran for his hideout.

It wasnt much, a run down building with some security to it. Most didnt know about the secret door in the floor thou, the door opened to a small tunnel going down, it would be a tight squeeze for any human. RagDoll dropped the money bags down the tunnel and slid after them, he emerged in a underground room full of stolen goods. RagDoll threw the bags into a corner of the room and slithered back threw the tunnel and out of his hide out.

OOC: Tog, the way you controlled those cops chasing Rag Doll is something called "godmoding", and if you look at the rules in the opening post of the game, it clearly states that that is prohibited. I'll let it slide for now, but please use more caution in the future.

It was a quite night, but that seemed to be that status quo these days.

It seems I'm not to be needed tonight...

Out towards the left, towards the horizon, towards nothing, Batman looked. He saw a sign that had grown unfamiliar to him. It had been quite a while since he had seen his insignia joining the clouds...he had almost hoped to never see it again. But it seemed like luck was not going to be on his side...not this night...in this town. Evil didn't rest. Neither did good, apparently. Bruce thought to himself with a chuckle, and sometimes that's just as bad...

Relying once again on his rope, the Dark Knight silently stalked towards his destination.

    Mr. Freeze

Victor Fries had been enjoying his time in relative silence, the comforting hum of his charging devices providing a nice backdrop to Holst's Saturn. He enjoyed classical music, one of the few things he kept from his old life. Before the accident...

"Strange?" said Freeze. His voice was icy, a low rasp, wintry. "Leave me. Prepare a car."

The man knew what to do, and what Freeze meant by car.

    "And make it quick."

    Batgirl
    Gotham

Batgirl spun around as soon as the arrow flashed past, scanning the buildings around her for any sign of the one who had shot it. Mentally she searched for any foes she'd fought before that could use a bow, and, more importantly, had been sent to Arkham. Drawing a blank on both cases, she turned her attention to the missile.

It was, as far as she could see, a regular arrow. Wooden, metal tip, with feathers bound to one end to make a flight. The only unusual thing was was the note that fluttered from the end. Frowning, Cassandra held the note to the light provided by a fitful streetlamp and tried to make sense of the words.

    "Duh-Ay... David. Cain."

    Dad?

She whirled around again, scanning the dark street wildly. Her father had contacted her? Why? Cassandra knew he could break out of prison any time he wanted; but now? Shaking, she forced herself to return to the note.

"Nine-three nine. Chuh... Chess? Chestnut. Drive."

An address. Well, she'd never known her dad as one for setting up home before. Curiosity struggled with common sense, but in the end, she opened a link to Oracle.

"Oracle? It's Batgirl. I've got a note. It says that father is here. It's got an address. I was wondering if you could. um, check it for me."

Barbara sharply turned her head at the knocking. At that moment she got Batgirl's message.
"Right. 939 Chestnut Drive" The knocking kept going. Biting her lip she turned back to the com.
"I have a situation, a possible intruder here at the tower. I'm going to try and engage them but it may be best if you got here if possible in case of hostility." She finished the com and made her way to next to the door. Reaching to the side of her wheelchair she pulled out on of her fighting sticks. She prepared herself.
    "Who's there?"

OOC: Darn, I had such a great post planned and I start in the sewer [face_frustrated]. Best to roll with the punches I 'spose.

    Croc

    Sewer Grotto, Gotham City

Croc had just begun her feast on the perverted businessman who was looking to pick up a quick score in the reptilian woman. Wilma played the events through her mind over and over, if only to appease her animal nature.

Earlier that evening in Gotham's Red Light District, the crowds had died down but the nightlife had only begun to crawl from their numerous hiding holes. Prostitutes lines the street corners, and even some more auspicious-types were working the alleyways. Usually the more visually unattractive women worked these areas, but also the ones who attracted that "special customer". Hiding in the darkness of a broken streetlight, a lithe woman dressed in dark leather clothing from her boots to her corset to her raven-black hair stood, smoking casually. She appeared to be young, what most of the customers liked, and given that, she had her first customer.

"H-how much?" The man asked, fumbling with his wallet. The darkness hiding his face beneath his fedora and also the sly, sharp-toothed grin appearing on the young woman's face. She adjusted herself from her position against the pole and took a long drag off of her cigarette. The man was shaking nervously and the woman looked up and down the roads to make sure the police were nowhere in sight.

"I don't know if you can afford me," The woman said aloud, sharp-nailed hand resting on her hip after slapping herself on the rear. The man jumped at the leathery smack and chuckled nervously as he gripped the wad of dollar bills tightly in his hand, all of which were hundreds. The woman grinned and pulled the man by his tie to follow into the darkened alleyway.

Moments passed as the leather-clad woman proceeded to toss the man's hat aside into the liquid muck of the alley and stripped him of his trench coat. Again, he chuckled nervously and began to wipe the sweat from his brow with a white handkerchief. The woman then went to work at undoing the buttons on his collar and began kissing his neck.

"N-no marks, please. My wife mustn't AAAARRRRHHHG----!" He screamed as the razor sharp teeth of the woman broke into his jugular vein. The man's screams soon turned to gurgled pleas for help, but in the Red Light District, no one cared who you were. Deaths were common, especially in Gotham.

Croc grinned and tossed the body in the water that led to the waterfront piers, caring nothing for the man aside from his valuables and cash. The body that lay next to him, floating in the sewer muck, a young woman: the prostitute Croc had killed to assume her identity. The reptilian woman tossed the black wig into the water next to the blonde and sneered through sharp, bloody fangs.

Then, and only then, her red eyes caught glimpse of bubbles, meaning that something was coming. She was confident that the man and whore were dead, but wasn't so confident to know that she hadn't been followed. "Maybe he was a cop. I didn't see a badge on him," Wilma thought, eyeing the dead body for a moment as the tide began washing the two corpses out to sea.

Croc backed up momentarily, nearing her fire, still clad in the leather skirt and corset that she had stolen. Her instincts told her that whatever was coming, would be surprised at what they would get next... a face full of claw...

    IC: Jonathan Crane a.k.a. Scarecrow
    ~Arkham Asylum - Gotham~

Crane looked about warily. He was, just like the others, very confused as to what had recently happened. Just minutes before he had been sitting on his bed in his room, staring at the wall before him as he usually did. Then, suddenly, with a loud booming noise and a huge rumble, his gate was opened and he was free. At first, Jon didn't know what to do. He stalked about the Asylum, watching as other criminals, such as Two-Face and Mr. Freeze found their ways around.

His genius soon caught up with him as he headed off towards the storage room. Once there, he quickly searched through some boxes before he found his lovely uniform; the scarecrow uniform that struck fear into his victims; of course, this fear was nothing compared to the fear that soon followed. He grabbed all that belonged to him, including the toxins, the uniform and the suitcase, and left.

As Crane walked out of the storage room, he could hear a slight ringing noise that was muffled by the chaos around him. He turned the desk in front of him, and saw the telephone vibrating softly on the desk. "Odd," he stated quietly to himself, wondering why a telephone would be ringing within the destroyed Asylum. He picked it up. "Hello?" he said.

When Jon hung the phone up, he was still amazed. Somehow, Carmine Falcone knew he would be by that phone...He didn't know how...Perhaps she was watching him. But, he didn't mind; his only objective now was to reach south Gotham quickly to meet with the notorious crime boss.

Within the hour, Crane had just a block away from his destination. He had gone unnoticed through the streets; no one recognized him, not even the cab driver. He hadn't realized he had been inside the Asylum for so long...people had forgotten him. He had to change that.

"That will be a total of seventy-five dollars and eighty-three cents," said the cab driver after he came to a complete stop. "I am charging a extra twenty-five dollars for the ride...with the breakout and all." Crane looked at the man, smiled, and exited the vehicle without paying.

"Sir!" said the driver, getting out of the drivers seat. Crane came to a stop and turned to face him. "I said you owe me seventy-five dollars and eighty-three cents!"

"My apologies sir," said Crane reaching into his suitcase. "Oh, can I ask you a question?" He still rummaged through his suitcase while he talked. The driver nodded. "What is it that you fear the most?" A demonic smile appeared on Crane's face.

"Wha-ahhh!" Crane moved with lightning fast speed, releasing the toxins into the mans face. The driver fell to the ground and screamed hysterically; his worst fears were coming to life right before his eyes. Crane, still with the demonic smile on his face, turned and walked towards his destination.

When Jon arrived, he rapped on the door of the notorious Carmine Falcone's hideout.
