Battle Droids vs Vong

Alas, this is not a post on the VH-1 droid (though we all love those magnificent bastards) but rather something about Jedi and the Force (yes, yes, big groan).

In Episode 1, Jedi have virtually no problems in combat against droids. They dispatch them effortlessly, by the ton, and even artistically. However, in the NJO, the fact that the Vong cannot be sensed through the force is a big deal, and severly handicaps the Jedi's abilities against them, making it a 1v1 type situation (though in recent books, of course, the Vong, like all supervillains, ahve become weaker).

Now apart from the fact that the Vong have better training, armour and weapons, what is the big difference, since droids too cannot be sensed in the force? Any any means of detecting droids though the force (eg microbes on the casing, their metal raw material etc.) should work equally well on Vong. So what gives?

These aren't the same Jedi we're talking about... these are Skywalker's Jedi, and even something that would otherwise be a minor detail to the old order is a source of consternation and angst, for some reason.

 

Federation battle droids do not have lightsaber-resistant armor and shoot blaster bolts that are easily deflected by lightsabers, rather than lightsaber-impervious poison-spitting amphistaffs. Battle droids are also terminally stupid.
