just watching ESB, The hoth Battle has to be one of the best action sequences. (not to mention state of the art stop-motion cinematography for its time).

What do you like/dislike about it? I love the bit where General Veers leans his AT-AT on its back leg to blast a snowspeeder. And the towcable bit where Wedge finally got to show off his fancy flying after being taken out of the Battle of Yavin.

One thing i never found out, how many AT-AT's were send down to attack the rebel Base,
and how many were destroyed? does anyone know?

At-At vs Snowspeeder awesome scene esp after the clean up on the re released video

think my fav part is when the at-at falls down after get it legs wrapped up by the tow cable, the slow motion adds real drama to it

i think at least 2 at-at's are destroyed maybe 3
    lets see
Wedge gets one with the tow cable, luke gets one from the ground ...

not sure how many they sent down maybe 6
there are a few At-st running around too

AT-AT squadron was sent to hoth walker squadron = 6. They where givin the squadron designation Blizzard e.g. Blizzard 1. I think only two walkers where destroyed.

Yes the battle of hoth was good My favourite battle is still the battle over Endor.

By favourite bit is when they yell 'Retreat!' and there's an awesome shot of the three remaining At-At's towering over the retreating rebel soldiers. And that sad music *sniff*

The bit when Luke throws a grenade into one is pretty cool too.

I love AT-ATs. I've even got this little remote control one. I hardly ever turn it on though, because it makes too much noise.

I belive the exact wording was "Fall Back Fall Back" not retreat.

The saddest bit is when General Rieekan says:
    "give the evacuation code clearance".

    I love this line:
" yes lord Vader, the shield will be down in moments.
    You may start your landing"

    Ooh, and just one more:
"Right now I feel like I could take on the whole Empire myself"
" I know what you mean"

    It's "Begin retreat! Fall back!"

    Another neat moment:

"Imperial troops have entered the base! Imperial troops have entered the <static>"

    That poor guy!

I really feel for the rebels on Hoth. It looked like they had a good thing going there - and the Empire comes it and completely destroys it in a few hours.

The entire battle has a huge apmosthere to it... Its Star Wars at its best... It gives you a strong feeling of hope.. well thats what it gave me anyway

One of my favrit parts is right before the heat of the Battle, when the Soldiers are waiting in the trench, and you can hear the thunder of the walkers

Anouther moment that did it for me was when Luke's walking over the entrance of Echo base and he see's the Falcon fly out, with that great music in the bg, gives a sence of relife...

    it great!

I like the 'go-motion' that was developed for the Tauntauns, it looks so cool compered to any other effects work from the time. Its hard to believe that it was all done pre '80's!!!

The Hoth battle IS the best battle scene in the OT.

The go-motion FX for the AT-AT's is perfect (nice n' mehanical) and will still hold up in years to come.

My only gripe is the close up's of the walkers heads (actually look like close up's of a model) and the taun-taun's. Although the taun-tauns were pretty cool at the time, they will look very antiquated by the time epIII comes out.

The BIG question is, will GL fix it up in an ultimate edition? I was suprised that ILM didn't replace the taun-tauns in the SE.

    Thoughts?

It is simple ESB hoth scenes ROCKS

and i agree the scene where the poor rebels can hear the At-AT's but can't see them
    excellent so powerful and dramatic

funny when the snow falls to block R2 from C3PO u would think C3PO was about to have a melt down

Agreed on everything so far, I must add though I love the Wampa scene (I know it's not the battle) and Luke's death scene "Degobah, Ben, Yoda"

"And I thought they smelt bad on the outside" :D
