Battle of Hoth

When Luke's snowspeeder was shot, how come it looks like he was hit by an ion cannon (electiticy sparking, the speeder appeared to just shut down), when the other speeders were hit, they just blew up?

Is there a techincal reason, or does the Walker cannons suffer from "main character complex"?

 

Occasionally, a blaster bolt emerges from the cannon ionized, which then acts like an ion bolt. It's just a fluctuation in the cannon's power.

I always thought that Luke was simply hit by stray walker fire, that it wasn't meant to be a direct hit at him, but rather just a stray bolt that sort of grazed his snowspeeder and did just enough damage to short it out and make him crash.

 

I think that the ones that blew up were hit in a vital system, such as the repulserlift system or fuel. When Luke's got hit, it might have hit one of the power cords, sending electricity over all over the ship, frying the controls.

It had just broken his Charcter Shields.

Realsitically, It was probably a stray bolt that hit a power coupling or something, causing everything in his speeder to short out.

 

There'd be no RotJ if he died.

although, I always thought for myself that it was but a stray shot and not a direct hit. Main Character Complex is just funnier
