Easily Battle of the Heroes and its counterpart "Anakin and Obi-Wan". The entire ROTS Soundtrack, for that matter, is arguably the most moving SW music Williams has ever created.

That being said, I'm still a sucker for that simple Imperial March...

ROTS + Empire: Best SW movies!! :)

    not anymore! heh heh heh.

I actually called my local classical music station the day DotF was released and asked them to play it. Surprisingly, they did! at the time, I was blown away by it and I still love its dramatic buildups and dropoffs, as well as the sanskrit chorus. But I now think BotH is even more exciting and artful than DotF. It has all the hallmarks of John Williams' music, which have all naturally become hallmarks of Star Wars music - a low, roiling texture of strings with long horn melodies and high brass punctuations. And of course the chorus is epic. All that is fairly common between duel of the fates and battle of the heroes, however. I chose battle of the heroes because I think the melody is better resolved and more fulfilling, while not sacrificing any of the epic or grandiose feel of the music. the melody of Duel of the fates definitely leaves listeners hanging - not much resolution melodically or harmonically. that is of course its purpose, but battle of the heroes is able to keep up your adrenaline while outperforming duel of the fates as a stand-alone piece. simply my opinion.

Well, I just came back from the Star Wars concert held here in Toronto, and after hearing both DOTF and BOTH live in concert, I must say that DOTF is a superior and much more riveting composition. BOTH lacks the epic feel of DOTF, and DOTF's quicker tempo helps heighten the tension the piece emulates.

Err... how so? If anything, IMO, BOTH conveys a more epic and grand feeling of adventure then DOTF does.

I don't know, may be I need to listen to the two themes back-to-back more often?

I'm going with Battle of the Heroes. I love Duel of the Fates, and it's a close call... but Battle of the Heroes wins out.

Battle of the Heroes, without a doubt. It's way more emotional for me, because of where it's used and how it's arranged. Something about it ties the whole Saga together.
One of the best themes ever written!

    Well, then you are lost!

I loved the variation of DoTF played durring the credits of TPM.
Its very, very tough, but I would have to choose DotF.Its a song that could be played virtually any time and in any situation, to a battle between 3 people, to a battle with a million soldiers. It represents a "scale" to any battle.

Actually, I made en edit where one track flows on to the other, and it actually fits.

    DOTF is much more memorable.

Ok, I broke a 50/50... though it was like choosing between my children. :p

I gave BotH the edge because of emotional impact, I can't listen to it without getting a little choked up. DotF gives me goosebumps every time, but it doesn't affect me the same way emotionally.

Battle of the Heroes for me.

DOTF is alot of fun, but BotH is just so raw. It's hate and grief and tragedy made into music.

Hell, we've been waiting for this duel since the bloody ROTJ novel came out and we learned Obi-Wan and Anakin had it out over a frickin volcano.

It's achieved such a mythic status that it has always been referred to as The Duel.

This Duel is the end of an age, it personifies the very end of civilization itself in tragedy and betrayal.

And the music that accompanies it is perfect.

That said, The Dark Side Beckons owns them both.

DotF I feel was the definining song to TPM
    AtS for AotC
    BotH was that for RotS

all three are very good and represent them well.

DotF is a has more applications for use in movies where as BotH just fells like it is the symboliation of Anakin vs Obi-won. DotF adds to a movie's drama were as BotH was well displayed the fall of the Anakin and the Jedi.

    I voted for DotF

DotF is excellent, but so is BotH.

I have more of a connection, as a singer, to DotF.

Also, I, so far, have less connection to BotH.

BotH was far better used in RotS than DotF was in TPM.

Truthfully, out of the prequel themes, I prefer Across the Stars. The woman I am boyfriend to (calling her "Luke's girlfriend" will get you killed) wrote magnificent lyrics to it, which have been made all the more relevent by RotS. She wrote them a year or so ago, and they STILL give me the chills.

They were posted, but that topic- probably due to its antiquity- has been locked. If anyone's interested in reading them, though, feel free to PM us.

I didn't like the ostinato in Duel of the Fates as much as I liked the background work in Battle of the Heroes. Besides, The strong choral presance there just seemed out of place after the OT had little use of one. THe way battle of the Heroes uses a choir I think is much more blended to the OT than Duel of the Fates. While I like both, I'd prefer Battle of the Heroes any day.
