So with that rumour and the Rebels season 2 finale in mind, Ahsoka Tano is clearly one of those battle puffins.

I've like to see a gritter, urban take on the Battle Puffins in one of the future movies. Maybe something set on Coruscant? Not so much Battle Puffins, more like Battle Pigeons.

I'm inclined to think there were Imperial Battle Flamingos on Scarif. Krennic just forgot to deploy them. The Flame-ingo Troopers would perhaps be the deadliest of the flock..... or maybe the Feath Troopers.

Little known fact.... the Separatists used Battle Boids (bird-droids), and then later, Super Battle Boids. Of course we already know about their Vulture-class Droid Starfighters.

Have you read the latest MSW rumor on the puffins actually being the already existing Convorees? I think this is an awesome idea, and the possibility that they may be observers of great Force related events makes them a little like eyes of the Force. It would be cool if they are able to convey important information to Luke and Rey. That would make them a natural source of exposition and flashback.

Yeah, it does seem that the birds will interact with Luke and Rey to seem extent, so this would be a great opportunity to seed some of that exposition into the story in a fun and natural way.

Me thinks three of them battle puffins will sit on this ol' force tree and tell stories to Rey.

Me thinks three of them battle puffins will sit on this ol' force tree and tell stories to about a girl named Rey
And whoever gets too close to the tree while listening the silently told story will be
    treated like the chosen ones

By all logic, we should have seen the puffins in TFA, but I guess the introduction of Luke with a bunch of little birds around him wouldn't be very epic.

Could have been cool though, Luke standing there with one of m puffins sitting on his arm.
Henceforth Luke will be nick named "The Puffin Whisperer"

Ah, but perhaps we have seen them in TFA.

    At 2:05:07 a long-tailed bird flies past
At 2:05:08 there's another flying past
At 2:05:14 there's one with some blue-green in its wings flying over the stairs
At 2:05:15 and 2:05:19 some are flying to the left of the cliff
At 2:05:23 there's a bird that looks like an X-Wing flying backward for 1-2 frames
    At 2:05:26 there's another reverse X-Wing bird
At 2:05:33 to 2:05:35 there's a puffin standing on a cliff (which I thought was a humanoid figure the first two times I saw it in the theater)

I have spent a few hours viewing videos of real life Skellig Michael and not only are the bird calls different from that in TFA also the birds are as well. Although there may be some real birds in the movie footage I am in no doubt that some 'birds' have been added digitally and also their sounds. There can be lots of birds on the Island in real life but it seems that any up close have been digitally removed from any TFA footage (as the film crew could not 'shoo' them away being protected and all). I have took a couple of screen shots of the new 'birds' - the question is whether the big wings and long tails are supposed to mimic motion blur or represent a peculiar GFFA species?

    And finally a real life shot of Daisy during filming with real birds (circled) that would have been removed digitally from the final cut;

Wow I just rewatched that scene and there are definitely a ton of birds in it making a lot of different noises… and they don't look like Puffins. That's pretty cool.

It's possible we have already seen Convoree in a film.
I just popped in the ROTJ Blu-ray, and in the opening shot on Dagobah (chapter 14, 39:32 to 39:35), there are two Convor-looking creatures flying over the water toward Luke's X-Wing.
    Artwork, not film's still-frame:

    and another:

The creatures in these pieces don't have the long tail of Convoree, but the shot in Jedi shows them fairly well. Perhaps the tails are not quite long enough, and they are not Convoree, though.
Kinda makes you think maybe Yoda wasn't as lonely as his situation is made out to be.
