ASHLEY M. DUNCAN
CALLSIGN: DUSTER
29 DAYS AFTER THE ATTACKS

Ashley Duncan fell into formation behind Gunnery Sergeant Yates and took up rear security for the small fire team that was about to breach what they hoped to be a Cylon weapons cache. The remaining 81 members of Alpha Company, 17th Mountain Division, 2nd MEF were scattered in a giant circle providing 360 security within the treeline. The twelve men of 2nd squad had darted from the trees using gutted cars, a wood pile and anything else that could provide decent cover and concealment. She gave the signal to Sergeant Rel to move his team into position to act as the extraction team for any wounded or prisoners they may encounter. The other team was already moving into position to apprehend anyone who may decide to exit via the backdoor.

She backed up into Yates and gave him a slight shove letting him know that she was ready to go, he in turn passed the signal down the line until it came to private Shaw, the point man. Shaw gave the signal to the door opener who kicked it in then leapt out of the way as he pushed his way into the building. Just like a small train the four marines pummeled into the room left, right, left, right with Duncan turning around and covering the entrance.

?CLEAR!? the marines started to shout seconds after entering the building. The room itself was fairly empty aside from a small table and two chairs. The only other entrance to the room was a hallway on the far left wall.. ?Marines stack up!?, Yates shouted as Shaw began to pie the corner looking for any possible threat, while the other marines took up position on his six. Pieing in laymen terms is slowly rounding a corner with the weapon closest to the opening, so that as you begin to make the turn the only thing the enemy will see first is the weapon and not half of the human body. ?Two rooms on right wall, stairs at end of hallway, hallway clear!? He moved forward and stopped just shy of the first door keeping the muzzle of his weapon pointed at the door.

By then the other Marines had once again formed up on his six and were covering the other door and stairwell hoping someone would walk down. Duncan took up position to cover the hallway and second room, when the first door was breached. ?Four in position? she shouted.

Gunny Yates shouted ?GO, GO, GO!?. The moment Shaw opened the door they rushed in and encountered armed resistance of the human variety. Shaw stepping through the door immediately stopped dead in his tracks as a bullet slammed into his forehead. Normally when a human is shot in the face they tend to drop in a crumpled heap; however Marine breaching training consisted of grabbing the man in front of you and shoving them through the door. This way no unnecessary obstacles form and you have a human shield to boot. The moment Yates was through the door he released his grip on Shaw, firing four rounds into a skinjobs torso. The toaster was dead before he hit the ground and Yates continued to track another target as he moved out of the way allowing the next man to enter.

Hope people enjoy(ed) the story and I'll post the next segment in the next few days. I'm hoping to get the next segment up prior to the end of the month, but I can't make any promises due time constraints and the unknown factor. But unlike a few other of my stories I've written in the past I do intend to continue this one well past three segments.

 

Duncan is hardcore. Ouch! I'd be crying as well if I started destroying elbows and knees.
